Default Top rubbing back seat

When I talking to the chap from Paul's Jag earlier about my
seats I mentioned the rubbing and rip from the top hitting
the back of the back seat. He seemed very familiar with the
problem so I guess it's common enough.

So, he said it was a strap that comes loose that allows the
rear window to come down to quickly and the top of the metal
frame hits. He mentioned to fix you re-rivet the strap in
place. Anybody able to walk me through what strap he's
talking about or point me in the right direction>

all i got out of that is that your seat is rubbing and your windows roll down too fast. not sure how those two facts are related.

Mines a custom made convertible and has a plastic rear window, so I won't be much help I'm afraid.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about repairing the strap to the actual rear window and not either of the quarter windows.

There are two straps from the second (?) top bow to the rear window frame that keep the window frame in place. The thing is they are under the top and top pad. I have the same problem on my ’95. The easy solution; as you are putting the top down (finger on the button) turn around and as the top is actually going down, about 2 inches from the top of the rear seat back reach out and push the rear window down into the top well – it’ll go right in without rubbing the seat back.

I have the same issue. I put my hand back as someone mentioned. I tried to reattach the straps but the rivets keep coming undone.

To get to the rivets you have to put the top half way up and reach in from the side. Im going to try again with a better rivet gun.
