Towwing an XJS on a dolly
Anyone here used a U-Haul car tow dolly to tow an XJS (backwards)? Is there enough ground clearance remaining, so the front of the car doesn't scrape?

Mine would drag the spoiler if towed backwards and pipes would drag if towed forward. I always towed on flat trailer. If I had a breakdown the tow companies always brought a tilt back flatbed.
Not sure how much of an angle you will be on. There is not muxh clearence at the lower spoiler.
I would NOT tow it any other way than backwards, if that clearence works out.
To tow it it front up, the prop shaft would need to be removed. Maybe only at the diff end and tied securely out of the way of the pinion flange.

My $0.02, I would get a flatbed like Jagfixer mentioned. I towed a car recently that ended up not fitting on a two wheel dolly and I found that the flatbed was only $20 more per day or something of the sort. If I had known that when I first rented the two wheeler, I would have gotten the auto transport (full trailer) anyway. It's worth it for the piece of mind you get knowing that you're not scraping off anything attached to your Jag, and you can more securely fasten it to the trailer to boot.
I would never tow an XJS on a dolly.
These cars sit very low and the front spoiler is only a few inches from the road. If you put the rear of the car on a dolly the spoiler would have almost no clearance. One good bump and the spoiler would be gone.
You also cannot tow the XJS from the front because like most cars with automatic transmissions, the transmission will be damaged. As stated above, you would need to disconnect the drive shaft if you wanted to tow the car with the rear wheels on the road.
The only way to go is with a flat-bed truck or trailer.

Just moved from Pensacola to TX. 500 miles. Towed both cars on my car dolly front end up. 89 convertible and 86 coupe parts car. No problem either car. Drive shaft disconnect and wired forward a little was no issue.
