Default Trim issue

I'm working on a 85 XJS for a customer and his lower chrome windshield trim is loose. How is this supposed to be held on? It's the drivers side lower corner. Thanks for any help... Dan in ND.

Welcome to the forum Dan,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XJS forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

I hope you plan on sticking around. It is best to remove the trim and re-do it. I am not clear if you are referring to the A pillar trim, that goes round the bottom corner of the windscreen, or the piece that runs along the bottom. Either way, this is the drill:

  • Pull back the A pillar rubber seal a bit, this will reveal two rivets or screws holding the A pillar trim, undo/drill out these
  • Gently ease off the trim (it is stainless steel by the way, so quite robust) and also gently pull it of of the windscreen rubber groove, carefully unclipping it where it is over the gutter at the top
  • This then reveals the screw holding the end of the windscreen bottom trim, and possibly a deal of rust too at the bottom corner
  • Then fettle/bend the trim until it seems to lie as you want it to
  • apply a goodly bit of seam sealer to the underneath so it is stuck in place as far as possible, and re-attach and fixings you undid.
If it is the trim along the foot of the screen, and you need to remove that completely, as well as undoing the other side pillar trim, you need to undo and remove the windscreen wiper mechanism and grille to get at two centre trim fixings hidden by the wiper stuff.
