Default (UK) tyre reccomendations

Hi all,

A question for UK XJS owners. I have an 84 XJS-HE and would like to put some new tyres on the rear. The front has Pirelli P6000's, but i know they are hard to obtain. The rear currently has Dunlops fitted and the sizing is 215/70/ZR15. I've typed this size into all the usual suspects (ATS/Tyreland etc) and they are either cheap tyres, or ones for camper vans/trucks. Can anyone share their knowledge on this and whether I can source similar sized ones that might fit the rims and the best place to buy/have them fitted. I'm in Salisbury, Wilts if there is someone local that might know someone.

Thanks guys

Mark

Longstone tyres will have what you need. Correctly rated tyres are very expensive for the OEM sized 15 inch rims. You can pick up a set of 16 inch five spoke XJS rims on ebay pretty cheaply, and the required 225/60/16 tyres are about 40% of the price of the 15 inchers, and there are loads of choices. Kuhmos are pretty cheap and really good, for example. try Just XJS and they may have a set.

I have Hero Atlanta on my XJRS. 225/ 60 on 15 inch speedline wheels. They are V rated, quiet, very good grip in both wet and dry conditions and only cost about 100 AUD each. The brand did pop up when l did a UK based search.

The 215/70-15 is a large tyre with a large circumference, and that looks good in my opinion. If you want to stay on 15" and keep wheels large there are not many options.

I believe there is some UK based manufacturer making the 215/70-15 tires for E-types and similar for around 150 gbp a tyre ?

Thanks for all your help guys, your comments really helped. I've managed to source the same size tyres and will get a local tyre fitter to change them over.

Hi

Pirelli are now making the original 215/70WR15 P5 again at the request of Jaguar. they are not expensive for what they are, but yes they do amount to a large credit card bill. but tyres for cars like an XJS always have been.
