Value Predictions
I didn't buy my Maggie because of any collectibility. I bought
her, somewhat impulsively, because she was a lot of car for the
money. That and the fact that she is drop dead gorgeous even in my
least favorite car colour (white). When I was talking to one of
the jag parts houses the other day, they mentioned just what a rare
car my facelift is. That plus a blurb on another website got me
thinking - when will they cease to be a good deal and start
climbing as collectors?
Pure conjecture I know but what do you think? What models do you
think will be the most collectible?

To be honest I wouldn't count on anything happening very soon, if ever....but I'm sure the same was said for the E-type, 1965 Mustang, and umpteen other cars so there no reason to think my crystal ball is better than someone else's :-)
Among Jaguar fans the facelift 6.0 litre cars, any models with a manual transmission, and any example that is in ultra mint condition will probably command substantially higher prices as time goes by. As for the car collecting world and the general public...well... I don't think the XJS is even given a second thought.
Others will chime in.
Cheers

Down here we are seeing XJ-S prices rising, and some dramatically, as compared to 5 years ago when you near on had to pay someone to take one away (car that is).
The car market here is FLAT, some say DEAD, so movement is slight at best.
We never got too many "facelift" here, either V12 or 6cyl, so it is the earlier units in the adds, and Pre Marelli seem to be more pricey than the latter.
Doug's crystal ball is the same brand as mine, and I just reckon that as any car gets rarer it falls into collectability, and that is purely a "numbers game".

what about values on modded cars, like upgrades in electronics, cooling systems, , then the cars that are better ,faster ,handle better, stop quicker, and much lighter in curb weight, and improved MPG, easy to do on pre HE V12s.
in USA markets old muscle cars used to be at premium prices, but lately well modded muscle cars have received higher prices than original clones.
to be absolutely factory correct, how would one get 1952 fuel for a 1952 vehicle, or for that matter 1952 air for the tires,
what i'm saying is ther is no such thing as an absolute original older vehicle.

Most people who appreciate mods like to do their own work but some discreet upgrades may increase value or marketability, particularly on a car that hasn't reached collector status..where originality might be more of an issue.
If the mods are are nicely executed and not too wild the car might be a real bargain for the buyer...as is virtually impossible for the seller to get ROI on them. A sharp buyer will recognize this.
A too-heavily modified car can be very hard to sell regardless of price.
