My XJS has been stood for about two months, she fired up beautifully and when i went to reverse the steering was stiff as hell. I put the handbrake back on and then took it off, but it was too stiff to turn the wheel with any confidence. Any suggestions guys?

 

Loss of fluid from power steering?
Pump failure or belt broken?
You've become feeble in old age?

 

Thanks Steve. Ill check the fluid level. Which pump/belt do i need to check? I hope its not old age, haha. Thanks again.

 

The one that goes round the pulley on the power steering pump. The pump is on the B bank side of the engine V (UK passenger side), carefully situated below the B bank top hose. Take the cap off and see if there is any fluid in the reservoir, as well as checking the belt.

 

My steering was stiff intermittently. All it was was a loose belt.
