New factor. Short lived or might be with us for a while. News relating holiday travel. More by car than by common carrier over last year.
Reasoning, lower gas prices. USA average $2.13 per gallon. Wow !
Higher around here, but relation to last year about the same. Circa $2.55. Not bad. We've see $4.00 +.

Going to visit in a bit. Jaguar and it's V8 or the Jeep and it's I6.
???

I did but a V12. Primarily because I couldn't resist an XJ-SC. I had it for three days now and it still runs.

Oh, man… (the XKR) “is nice but not a V12”?

Wow, interesting perspective. Would this be in regards to the V12’s superior acceleration, or the V12 superior gas mileage, or just the V12 superior reliability and cost of maintenance? … Shook me a little more than a tad, as well...

Now, I would give some merit to that statement if it included the word Ferrari, or Lamborghini between "a" and "V12". Otherwise it sounds kind of like an insult to the glorious supercharged V8 Jaguar power plant.

Apples and oranges.

Cheers,

I like both, apples and oranges, o.k. orange juice.
So I have an XK8 with a V8 and an XJS with a V12.
Two completely different cars, both totally awesome.
Now I just need a Jaguar with an inline six. :-)

Cheers,

I suspect spoken by someone who has never owned a Jaguar V12? Apples and oranges... Yes, but I own both and I also prefer the smoothness of the V12 over the brutality of the supercharged V8. Don't get me wrong the only way I give up my XKR is for a newer more brutal one. Not everyone wants to do 0-60 in 4 seconds. Well I do, but not everybody. A trip to AJ Engineering will wake up anyone's V12, will it be V8 supercharged quick? No, but quick enough to put a smile on your face. Your post sounds kind of like an insult to the glorious V12 Jaguar power plant. Just sayin

I'm tickled to be back in a V12 Jag after so many years without one. Rewarding to own and a joy drive

Cheers

For the record, I have never wanted to own a Ferrari, or a Lambo (except maybe the original Miura but I was young then) and certainly do NOT regard the Jaguar V12 XJS as a poor man's substitute for an unreliable, overpriced, needing endless cosseting, unusable in the real world, idiotically expensive to maintain, poorly made, fragile, "secretly-wish-I-had-one", far less beautiful, Italian non-equivalent. And I suspect very few XJS owners do.

MAAAAAATE.

16 years with 2 V12 JAGUARS, and she is more biased than me.

Add to that, Female logic, and you are way braver than me to even suggest she is wrong.

She still wants an XJ-S, and I am fast running out of excuses. The Red Devil was FAST, and STRONG, and interstate blasts, were, well, a blast.

NOTHING against the XKR, trust me, but its NOT a V12, simply has 4 cylinders missing.

Most V12 chatter is coz they aint running right, and no amount of coaxing from anyone on here will ever get them "on song", and until you have owned, driven a V12 Jaguar that is "on song" you have NOT lived.

I would love to still have my MK7, that beast was FAST, could NOT stop, but at 19 who cared.

He,he....

Reminds me of my fuzzy well worn 37 Ford Fordor. Gray, surely not spectacular.

But, after an engine rebuild failure, it got a very much warmed up 48 Mercury V8. A true "Q" ship. Fast as the devil. But lousy mechanical cable operated "brakes"!!!

How I survived some of those days is ?????

Oh boy here we go! You had to go there and question the superior performance of the Jaguar V12 with all it's 245 to 310 HP. I am getting the pop corn ready so I can read the rest of the responses after this.

OK, back to the original post, so you bought a V12 now we need pictures.
Is it still running? What have you run across that needs attention? First thing you do is get the battery checked, me I just replace first day and then I have eliminated that group of issues. Then get a smart charger and use it. Welcome to our addiction.

She runs, drives, and brakes. But she revs herself when idling warm. Definitely needs a tune up, the brakes gone through and all new fluids. And I could use an extra license or two. She goes 100 with ease. :-) (pictures are in the gallery, look for a black 1986 XJ-SC)

That will either be a vacuum leak or the Idle valve which is on the LHS (US driver side) of the engine at the rear of the water rail. There is a bolt on it and this is the idle adjustment. If it does not adjust then the AAV may be stuck, a very common problem.
