what does a dropped valve seat sound like?
UMMMMMM, not yours I hope??????????.
If so BUGGA.
YES.
It is a LOUD clack, clack, clack, like a VERY sad tappet, but louder.
The engine will be 11 cylinder, and quite rough running.
If kept running, the chances of the valve head parting company with the stem, and doing obscene things to the piston, is VERY HIGH.
I heard of one that dropped the 6B insert (seat), and pieces of the insert were found in the A inlet manifold, kinda scary.

Mine developed a noise on my way to work last night. The engine runs smooth but makes a popping noise when under accelleration only. I wasn't sure what a dropped seat sounded like, but now I'm thinking I may have just blown a donut gasket on one of the down pipes.
Agreed, a seat dropped is a sound all its own, and trust me, you will know instantly what it is, as will your bank balance.
Doughnut seal makes sense to me, as does an exhaust manifold to head gasket, you know, those EASY ones to get at, HAHA.
