Vacuum advance? Vacuum retard? Sounds like the ignition should go on the junk pile with all the spaghetti. I am sure there is a good electronic ignition system on the market somewhere.

HA, we got what we got, and it works well once the slack maintaining rubbish is sorted.

The Opus Ignition system is a sad puppy at best. Mine all run teh Crane XR700 system, despite word that it will not work on a V12. Oops, Sir Arthur is way over 500000kms and going sweet, and the Crane is happy.

It had vac retard, for 1970's emission done here, and it never worked. I simply put a HE vac advance unit in it, and dialed the timing by ear, all done and the engine is strong and quick. Slightly better on fuel, but not much.

Without tearing the interior trim apart to refresh my memory isn't the ABS unit in the passengerside footwell and the ECU still in the trunk? My car has a tiny red hose going to the one in the footwell.

hey Grant i'm using the Crane XR700, with an over the counter universal coil.

23yrs and counting, idle control,YUP readjust the throttle plates, its just an engine with a bunch of cylinders.

i just simplified everything on it!

i do use an aftermarket ECU , its kinda fun fiddling with it while driving!

I agree, extremely simple engines, just the human factor the complicates things.

Gotta luv the "fiddle" bit, it is soooooo important as we get older, great pastime.

No. The ECU in the foot well is the Marelli one. The ABSECU is in the boot to the top left.

You have a Marelli car if you habe a hose going to the ECU in the passenger side foot well. Unless it is for the AC but I am 99.9% sure it is the Marellli ECU. Again, why would the ABS ECU need a vacume connection? The system has no brake servo as per original definition. The brake system is totally vacume free...
