Whats the minimum size trolley jack you can use for the XJS?

Well, that being said, I performed my first lift in my little garage with my new tools:
My handle comes in 3 pieces, I have so little room I had to push the trolley under the front (after driving on timber sleepers for clearance) and then I could only fit one piece of my handle on else I was hitting the wall.

Other pieces of the handle:

Chocked up my rear tyres and placed it in Neutral with handbrake off, as the very wise GinF says so to not wind up the diff and allow movement:

Up she goes!

I used the jack points but I have a good reason:

Ok so I wanted to use the part under the spring as my jacking point however, I couldn't figure out where to exactly place it. Inside the circle with wood? Resting on the lip of the circle? Please help!

All in all though I was able to get under my car to inspect my wires to my transmission. They were in a bad state much like my EFI harness. Made the repairs but.....speedo still buggered. Time to order that transducer!
Finally. How did I do for safety? Ways to improve perhaps? I had my car resting on the 3 tonne jack stands, trolley in place as back up, and just the wood planks under the wheels:

You did fine! If I'm lifting the front of the car, I'll put the jack under the front crossmember with a piece of wood there to protect the car and jack in the centre.
If you were going to jack under the spring pan, I'd have a piece of wood that fits inside the ring where the spring sits, and also small enough to sit inside the depression in the head of your jack.

Guys I have a question:
My new trolley jack. As recommended I use it only to prop up the car to put the stands under and then I being work under the car.
As most of you guys do, I leave the trolley jack in place as an extra precaution.
What I have noticed:
If I leave my trolley jack in the up position I notice it will gradually come down overnight. (ie. it is bleeding off). Is this normal? I would have thought they would stay put for ever.

That is NOT Normal,
That Trolley Jack should stay in place indefinitely, with or with out a load on.
I used to have a Jack that did the same and I did a lot of research on how to fix that very same problem.
Everything was pointing to the 'O' Ring, where you screw the handle in to keep it up, which apparently can be replaced.
But and there is always a 'but' it could be the Hydraulic Seal on the Piston which is either good and will last a long time, or bad which will leak for ever.
Anything can be Fixed at a price but why on earth should you do that, you've only had it five minutes so don't accept a repair take it back and tell
them you want a New One or else a refund.

I am going to have a look also to see if it might have an adjustment or something...

If you try and adjust it (which you can on some) it will invalidate your guarantee, don't faff around Bro, take it back and get another one or a refund.
Its very obviously faulty, and you don't want to find that out the hard way.

Well she passed the overnight test.
Looks like you have to keep the pole inserted and twisted into place. I was taking it out because it was in the way after I jacked up the car.
Had it cranked up all yesterday and all night with the pole inserted and she is good.
Possibly just the way it is designed/operator error?

Yeah! me too but its just a bit too freezing Cold at the moment but 28 days later, it should be a different story.
BTW, when you've done the gearbox if She decides to take off through your lounge window, my guess is you're doing something wrong.
