Offset is the key, the TWR wheels were
Fronts 19mm
Rears 33mm

16x8 will fit if the offset is correct.

Thanks for the reply. The wheels in question arent TWR wheels, but standard fittment on XJ6 and XJ8 1994-2002. As far as I know front and rears are same offset, although Ive no idea what the offset is on this particular design of wheel.

Front offset with an 8" rim needs to be atleast 20mm otherwise you could have rims rubbing on the inner suspension components.

I had so much inaccurate recollection here I am just deleting this post and making a new one below.

I would LOVE to have an XJS wheel fitment sticky.

- which Jaguar wheels fit
- which Jaguar wheels need spacers
- which other manufacturer wheels fit (Volvo, BMW)
- which other manufacturer wheels fit with modification (spacers, drilling center hub)
- which aftermarket manufacturers offer wheels
- list of custom aftermarket wheels

Any takers?

After some trawling of the web, I found this;
Rim and Tire upgrade Decision
Some usefull stuff in there.....
And for anyone interested, the origional reason for my post has now been sorted. The XJ6 / XJ8 Dimple wheels as fitted to Sport models (8x16) do fit, and the offset is 33mm.

Ok. I misremembered my figures in the post above so I deleted that post and am making another.

Some owners run 17" X 8" XKE Revolver-style wheels on their cars with 33mm offset—same offset as the wheels you mention. Of these, some report no scrubbing, others report minimal scrubbing and the need for a 1/4" spacer up front. So to be safe with an 8" wheel, 27mm is considered the cut-off point for front offset on an XJS with a 235-series tire. If you choose not to run a spacer up front you may experience scrubbing depending on the tire brand. It will be a very, very, very close issue up front. In back, the 33mm offset wheels should be fine.

Some owners run 94-97 XJR wheels with 25mm offset and have no issues, as this offset provides just enough clearance on the inner side up front and just enough on the outer side in back.

I started a comprehensive wheel thread, but didn't really get enough feedback to keep it going at the time. Maybe I'll return to it later and list the non-factory wheel options.

IDEAL OFFSETS FOR AN XJS:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-wheels-65576/

See in that post where it is discusses tire section width. To really get an idea of clearances a person must not only state how wide a wheel is that he/she is trying to fit, but also the tire section width that is being considered. In almost all cases the tire section width will be slightly more than the wheel width, making the tire measurement the one that matters.

Good info in this thread - thanks, guys. Looks like the safest, easiest bet (and widest selection) is to look for a 17x8 or 17x9 BMW wheel. I think 18 is pushing it on size a bit. The XJS looks good with chunky tires - like a Countach.

Thanks Seth. Some great stuff there. This info is invaluable to guys who race xjs and are limited to wheel width and tyre aspect (normally 50 profile). Thanks,
Tony

You're very welcome. One of these days I may go back and update that thread with some of the available wheel alternatives.

Agreed, this sounds like a cool wheel option. Share the fitment info and show us some pics!

Also, what's the deal with the BMW wheels? I thought they had a 5x120mm pattern, while our Jags have something like 5x120.65mm? Are they safe for a direct swap-out?

Last, that XJS wheel thread is excellent. It should be shaped into a sticky with some other relevant posts.
