JLM12021 (LH) seems to still be for sale at JDHT
JLM12020 (RH) does not. You may want to check in with them in any case...

There's always eBay.

Have you actually taken apart the motor to verify it is really bad?

I have yet to replace a motor because it was burned up. All they needed was a good cleaning of the brushes and commutator. A little new grease in the gears and they worked fine.

Something to consider before looking for a difficult to find replacement.

The mechanic beat on it with a hammer and it started to work. How can I check the integrity of the relays?

I think you reread Safari's post. If he hit it a couple of times and it worked, sounds like a rebuild is in order.

Should be as simple as some cleanup and grease... I would take that route first.

This is typical behavior of a motor with dirty brushes and commutator. Once you clean those parts the motor will run again.

Mark, you're a life saver. I took apart the motor and cleaned it with contact cleaner and also greased the hell out of the tracks and now they both work perfect. Thank you very much. It was hours of work and I hated every minute of it. But i saved hundreds. Thx

I'm glad I could help.

As you said, removing and reinstalling those motors is a real pain in the neck but the servicing of them is not too bad. Now they should operate for many more years. Saving a few bucks is an extra bonus!

Mark, the motors work but the left side window comes up when the top is down and goes down when the top is up? What could I have done wrong?

I can tell you exactly what happened. When you took the magnet can off of the motor you reversed it when you put it back together.

I hate to tell you this but you are going to have to take the motor back out and reverse the magnet. That will put it back in synch with the other motor.

Default part numbers for rear quarter motor

How do I tell if I need JLM11590/1 vs. JLM12020/1?

Both say they fit XJS 179737 to (V)226645 which spans my 94 XJS convertible.

I tried rebuilding but didn't get reliable results.

If you've looked at Jaguar's Parts website, you'll see that JLM12020 / 1 is for VIN 194775 onwards.

Cheers

You should know better than saying that. Cats have memories and if you think that task was bad, wait till you see what she has in store for you !!!! Take it all in stride because if you cannot laugh and giggle while you're doing it, you are doomed !!!!!!! What you have in your possession is an experience that few will ever know or work hard for her forgiveness. And only a few will ever have the experience of putting her on the road.

Hi guys;

89 xjs convert with a non-functioning right rear quarter window motor. I swapped the relays and the right window still doesn't budge. I plan to remove the motor but I don't know the techniques to disassemble and rebuild the motor itself. Can anybody send me some reference links to vids or documents? Thank you!

Gary,

The removal of the motor is in the Service Manual, but not any dismantling and rebuild. Jaguar just expect to replace a non-functioning motor!

Before you dismantle, have you tried powering 12v direct to the motor to eliminate any fuse, wiring etc issues? If you do have to remove, I believe there is a problem sometimes where the toothed cog that provides the stop point bends and allows the motor to drive past and then stick. Others have also found resolution by tapping the motor with a hammer - true!

Good luck

Paul
