wierd braking issues, loss of braking, abs, steering pull
1995 XJS 4.0
I was driving today and was experiencing a very strange braking issue. This only occurred at very slow speeds, think pulling up to a stop sign. I would feel a loss of braking power, the pedal would sink a bit, but i would feel the abs engage and as this was occurring, the car would also pull hard to the left. Does not occur under hard braking conditions. Not sure where to start in the diagnostic process.
Sticky caliper or pins?
bad front right abs sensor/ corroded tone ring?

My X300 did exactly that.
I know, BUT the X300 is basically a LATE XJS with 4 doors. The running gear is identical on the AJ16 engined cars.
Word was rampant about the ABS module having dry solder joints and reeking havoc.
I unplugged that modu\le, and the issue went away, and the brakes and car were as good as any other Jag on the fleet.
Got a refurbished module and had other issues, bugga.
\Unplugged that sucker, taped the socket. removed the ABS bulb in the dash, and moved on. The curren owner is more than happy with the car, even witout ABS.
Probab;y NOT the fix you want, so be it, my cars were and are ALL Daily Drivers, and I have no time for lengthy diagnosis. Never had ABS until the X300, and dont like it mucj anyway, we always were able to stop in the old days, so I suppose its the ability of the driver to drive with care. We NO GOT snow and crap, but dirt roads, hell yes, and mud when it rains, we learnt different tp most.

First of all, you need to clarify which braking system you have. As you're US-based, you're probably talking about a US "1995 Model Year" car? Is your VIN prior to 198334? If so, you have the somewhat problematic Teves II system which is different to the x300 saloon car system.
If you do have the Teves II system, start by doing the Blink test and see what error codes are showing. Then do the 32 Continuity tests to see if you can ascertain if you have an electrical problem.
Good luck
Paul
