Default Wipers don't return to home position

On my 86 coupe my wipers don't stop at home position. They just stop when turned off. I turn it to delay to find home then turn off. My delay seems to work.
Also they are very slow. I would like to speed up if possible.
Any ideas?

From what I remember, as I would need to look at a wiring diagram, there are two relays on the wiper motor. One controls the home function, and the other controls the delay. I believe that when you turn the wiper switch to the on postion, the home relay turns off, until you go to the off position again. It takes a volt meter, and a little patience to track down, but that "may" be the problem.

Don't think I've ever driven an XJS that self parked the wipers properly. Very common problem.

Both my Ser III XJ6 and my 88 XJS suffered the 'wipers don't park' problem. In both cases, FWIW, a new switch fixed it.

If someone can find (or ever saved) the old articles from the now-defunct "SK JagTech" site there was a DIY fix for the errant contact inside the switch that (usually) caused this problem.

Cheers
DD

I'm glad I'm not alone. It was a gripe of mine when I got the car (albeit a rather minor gripe,) but if it's such a common problem, I'm almost compelled to let it be. Adds to the charm, no?

We have the same dilemma though, BC, lazy wipers that don't know when it's time to go home. Now that you mention it, I would like to see the wipers act with a little more urgency... I'll have to pay attention to this thread.

Here is a link to a PDF file that has a lot of info about the wiper motor;
