worries
The list is long and a bit complicated, and too much to describe and explain all at once :-). The biggest weak spot, though, is owner neglect.
Go to the top of this section. In one of the sticky threads is a buyers guide that might be helpful.
Post back with more specific questions after that
Cheers

+1 with Doug.
Neglect and time can do a number on any car, the XJS is just as susceptible. The motor itself is actually a pretty rock solid piece of engineering. The cooling system has to be functioning 100% though, and I'm really not a fan of Lucas electronics and wiring (Sorry Doug..lol).
Nothing that can't be repaired!

An XJS can usually be had for a very reasonable amount of money. That being said, try to be patient and find the BEST one you can afford. (Like many marques or models, usually the "newer" the "better".) As stated in the other posts, the worst things are likely owner neglect or lack of regular use. Four issues come to mind: Leaks at the rocker covers (requires removing the intakes), cooling system issues (as stated above, this sytem must be in very good order), the original injectors will tend to cause rough running or rough idling (often confused with intake leaks), and I have never seen one that had really cold a/c. The good news is none of these is a deal killer, just typically expensive to repair. And don't forget that there are "6" cylinder versions out there that may also work for you!
thank you all. I know it was a generic question but I really appreciate you taking the time. I may shy away from the V12 and go with an XJ6 like my parents had. The search continues.....
these cars are (contrary to popular opinion) remarkable examples of engineering, WAY over engineered in fact. Yes, they can be exceedingly complicated, and yes electrical issues can be a bugger and yes you have to provide them with fairly constant TLC, however, when they are "right" nothing compares to the pleasure derived from driving them. Good luck on your search for a good one mate.
You are so right! I spent my what seemed to be my whole life(2003-date) restoring my 82 just so I could experience that RIDE. But when I got my 91 convertible that has low mileage and nothing (drivetrain) needed to be fixed, it's like heaven just getting in and going, and when your park it you just can't help turning around and taking a second look and saying "that's mine!" ooooooo a red one...... I'll take it!! Bud
