My XJ-Spider project has stalled so I am open to any and all advice . . . plan to graft on a custom made XKR type snout has hit a snag.
Briefly, the plan is to body mod my '78 XJ-S (pic#1) using cues from PininFarina's '78 XJ-Spider (pic#2) but retaining the stock headlights. Work on the snout mould has started . . . shaped from bonnet lip down to wide oval shaped rad intake, deeper than in pic#2 and with splitter underneath that integrates fogs, turn lights and air ducts to front brakes.
Here's the snag . . . the stock forward tilting bonnet/hood will foul the snout unless I either switch the bonnet to hinge at the firewall (my preference, but how?) . . . or make it 4-pin fully removable, perhaps impractical on a road car, but implied by pic of a modsports XJ-S #86 (pic#3). All suggestions and inspirations gratefully received . . . especially from anyone with ideas or success in firewall hinging an XJ-S bonnet.
By comparison, body mods planned for rear deck and dynamic rear wing are taking shape and I am taking plenty of notes and pics to share each step of the process when further along.
Not ready to give up my vision yet, but if the bonnet hinging forces a drastic re-think, then the front bumper/dam/splitter on modsports #86 appeals. This car was photographed at last month's All British Day at Brisbane, Australia, but efforts to contact owner have been unsuccessful. Can anyone help me to identify, then source supplier, of this? Based on my research, it is neither a TWR nor the Lister on which the TWR is reportedly based. Any suggestions?
Hi.
I now own the red XJS in your post. I purchased it earlier this year and had it on the track for the first time this weekend here in Brisbane. The previous owner gave me the mould for the spoiler. If you are still interested I can contact him and ask him what he moulded it off.
