Not that I need to get one at the moment but I have always liked the idea of a 'Hybred'
So if I ever needed to replace my 'Bonnet/Hood' I would be toying with the idea of fitting one from a 4.0L Facelift Car.
Would it fit straight on without any problems?
Does anyone think that this would improve the looks, or do you prefer the Original.

The bonnet from the same era car which had the hump in the middle of the bonnet will fit, so for example a straight 6 3.6 litre bonnet will bolt straight in. At some point the facelift cars changed the bonnet catches to a different design and these will not fit straight in, requiring changes to either the engine side of the catches, or to the bonnet fixing fittings. The actual pressing though, minus the catches, is identical, as far as I know.
As to your final question, to people like me who fell in love with the car on its launch and never fell out of love, it ruins Malcolm Sayer's and William Lyons' wonderfully elegant, delicate and low-line front end. it was only changed so they could shoehorn the straight 6 into the body.

Thanks and I did have a bit of a feeling, that you would like the Original more than the Facelift Style.
I've also got a Facelift Car and make no Secret of the fact, I hate the way it looks, as I much prefer the 'Gothic' Lights.
So for me the Perfect Combo, would be the 'Gothic' Lights, with the Bonnet/Hood from a Facelift Car.
Although I admit I am Wavering, after what you said, so I'll have to do a side by side Comparison.

OB,
I like the bulge bonnet (partly because i have one on my 4 litre!) but then again I also like the facelift lights!
If you do change the bonnet, there are 3 different type of striker plates. I think the early 3.6 had a 3-bolt plate, the first facelift had a 4-bolt plate and then the late ones (with spring-loaded catches) also used a 4-bolt but with a different pin shape.
I suspect they could all be made to fit somehow, but suspect a 3.6 or early facelift bonnet is a direct drop-in.
Cheers
Paul

BTW if I fitted a Facelift Bonnet/Hood, could the Car be 'mistaken' (by those who don't know) for a 6 litre Version?
Or am I also one of the ones who don't know.

OB,
Sadly it's unlikely! Because the only standard pre-facelift 6 litre cars were XJR-S Coupes, and then the facelift 6 litre convertibles all had the big plastic bumpers, so it's unlikely that a pre-facelift convertible, even with a bulge bonnet, would be mistaken for a 6 litre. In fact some might think it was a 3.6 litre Cabriolet that had been converted to a convertible! There again, most people won't even notice the difference in the bonnet anyway!

To many there are a few visual things that make the XJS stand out -
The facelift hood bulge, facelift taillamps, facelift bumbers.
Get compliments on all these all the time from everyone that checks out our XJS'

That would be the perfect Combo for me.

It is ok to come out and just admit to everyone how much you really do love the Facelift taillamps. Get compliments on ours all the time but then we are hanging out with the hip crowd and not at the local pharmacy or bingo hall-LOL

By "gothic", do you mean the four round lamps? Would not the Arden parts be a(n expensive) bolt in fit?

But if I'm mis-understanding, and you mean the glass lozenges, I'm afraid I am at a loss.
