I do have a problem with the electrics.

If I start the car with an external power-battery the car runs beautifully and the battery charging (regarding the instrument-gauge) works; when I rev up the charging goes up as well (again regarding the instrument-gauge).

But after around 10 Minuts suddenly (from on moment to the other) the charging drops, more and more systems loose the necessary energy and in the end even the engine is about to stall. If I start it again, everythin works for some minuts and then suddenly the charging drops again.

We already changed the battery but thats not the problem. My mechanic thinks it´s probably the "charging controller unit" in the alternator and therefore he wants to change the alternator. But I think I´ve read somewhere that this unit is not in the alternator but somewhere else in a sperat unit.

Does anyone have a clue what could be the problem? Is there a seperate controller unit and if so, what is it called and which part numer is it?

It is part of the alternator. You need a new alternator!

Where in France are you located, by the way? I just got myself a holiday home near Pau to enjoy the winding roads of the pyrenees (there is no such thing in northern Germany). So if you are in that area as well we could think about meeting and having a XJS-tour.
