XJS 3.6 with Leaking Manual Trans
I have a 1985 XJS 3.6 with a manual 5 speed transmission. I believe it to be equiped with a Getrag # 265 transmission. It is leaking at the rear from a bad bushing which is usually caused by a bad shaft or bearings or both.
As I understand it BMW used this same gear box on 3 & 5 series in the 80's. Should I be searching for a good BMW transmission guy? Most Jaguar garages I have spoken with didn't know this car existed. I do most of my own work but this is more that I want to tackel. If anyone has any information on this transmission or how I should proceed, I would appreciate your in-put.
Thanks in advance...

an '80's 3.6 in the US? thats rare. A 3.6 with a manual tranny in the US? thats super rare. As to the transmission, Jaguar stopped using the Getrags when they introduced the "HE" V12 cars. I guess they used them with the 3.6 liter cars. I didn't know there were any 6 cyl cars in the U.S. until '92. interesting.

I wonder if you have one of these:

Here's what the link says if it doesn't work...
Today George Camp told me about the special XJ57 cars that
Jaguar was supposed to have brought to the US for testing in
the early 1980's. There were some of the first 3.6L XJS cars
and they had the Getrag 5speed manual transmission. George
says Jaguar brought 25 of these over for early testing. They
were sent to various dealers and carried full log books of
fuel consumption, driver impressions and etc.
