Angry Xjs 87 v12, indicators not working

My indicators do not work but hazards are fine.

Changed the hazard switch , no improvement
Changed the indicator stalk, no improvement, the headlight flash/ dip works

All the indicator lights work if I switch on the hazards, flashes as normal

Indicators work if I energize the flasher unit the green/ white wires on the plug x2, works left and right all round. One fat , one thin gr/wh

Could it be the flasher unit at fault although as I said it works with the hazard switch?

Can anyone help as I can't use the car without signals

I have changed the hazard switch and the stalk,

All advise is appreciated.

Years ago I worked on an XJS with a similar scenario. The details are foggy now but as I recall the t/signal switch was not getting voltage from the hazard switch on the light green/blue wire. I couldn't easily find the open circuit so I simply strung a new wire.

Might be worth checking on yours

Also, was the hazard switch new or used? If used, it might just need a bit of vigorous exercising to clean the internal contacts, as they oxidize over the years

Cheers
DD

this happen to me...
right after I checked to see if the Hazards lights worked...
I found that the Hazard light switch was not popping back out all the way and because of that the turn signals were not being switch back to have power...
the power goes through the hazard switch and when you turn it on it activates all of them and when you release the hazard switch it SHOULD pop back out and return the power to the turn signal switch...
I found a little contact cleaner and then a little silicone lube spray fixed my switch right up....

be a little violent with a quick releasing motion when turning it off.. so it will pop back out... then SPRAY and work the switch....
I'll see if I can locate my wiring diagram...

+1 for the hazard switch. We just had the same failure on fellow member @smgdatas '86 and it was the hazard switch. Some wiggling of the wires at the back of the hazard switch showed the sensitivity.

I had that problem initially. I tried exercising the signal switch and hazard lights. I checked the power going to the switch which was okay. It looked like the turn signal switch was bad. I didn't have any contact cleaner on hand so I sprayed some WD40 into the switch and worked it "vigorously". Lo and behold it began to work. Give it a try, might work for you.

The turn signals and 4 way flasher use two different fuses, #2 and #5 on your '87. The 4 ways can work fine with the signal fuse blown. Can't remember which is which at the moment, but check both fuses, and also make sure that the contacts are clean, assuming glass fuses.

This happened to me: the fuse wasn't bedded properly and/or there was corrosion around the tips, I moved it around a bit and the indicators returned...!
