Default XJS elevates the mundane to the sublime (once again)

Article I saw on Jalopnik earlier today - talking about the cabin air extractor system now usually hidden on cars. The black panels situated just behind the quarter windows and the buttresses. Yes, this thread is worthless without pics but I'm at work.

I think they are an under-appreciated element of the car's styling, along with the ash trays, vertical gauges, and door locking flaps. Does a more elegant pair of ashtrays exist in the automotive world?

If by chance one gets stuck open, damaged, rott, etc would be a good entrance for scorpions, snakes, spiders, etc. and end up at your feet, face, etc. Just my thoughts.
On my 99 Mercedes, if the windows are all the way up and you open door to get, out window drops 1/2" and when you close goes back up.

That is the modern way of making a convert or coupé with frameless windows sealed. Older cars just weren't as sealed. See the pillarless coupés in the 50ies. Just two panes of glass overlapping slightly...

Coincidentally, I have that exact article open in my browser. Even though Jalopnik isn't as good as it used to be, I still check it out from time to time. And try to avoid the leftist wibble from the sister sites it tries to get me to click on.
Of course, two of those design elements are removed on the facelifts. I'm not sure where the air goes in the facelift cabin. I know the grilles on the door jambs are connected with the system, however.
Initially, I much preferred the round gauges over the vertical, as I generally preferred wood where I look. But lately I definitely think the quirky vertical ones are more fun. I rather doubt they just swap around, however....

Not sure what you mean but it lets the pressure out then goes back up. It also has a few features that other cars just came out with several years ago.
