WOW, first ive ever heard of it being easier to swap a chassis and drivetrain into another car than getting the title sorted out. at least you dont have to pull the windshield or dash to get the vin tag out of an XJS.

Geez, if you lived a little closer I'd say bring it to me. In NH you don't need a title for a vehicle prior to 96, just a bill of sale and a VIN verification. I'd buy it, register it, sell it back and you can apply for a title through the State of NH.
Of course it could take months to sort it out if any problems come up...

i was gonna suggest that you could do it online, but i guess you would have to have the car in person for the police to check the Vin.

I do know maine is pretty easy to do business with. Everything can be done by mail. You register your car then you can apply for a title there. Then you can register in NY. Just a thought.

I have no idea. I had to register a vehicle in maine for a while 10 years ago because of a tax issue. The ex-wife owed money and the state blocked me from registering a car. I remember calling the motor vehicle office and explaining what I wanted. They could not have been more helpful, unlike the Connecticut DMV people who do not answer the phone or are just plain lazy and rude.
