Default XJS Recommended method for using tie-down straps on a trailer

Hi everyone,

Planning on picking up our first Jag XJS this weekend. We have a 16' open trailer with tie down eyelets. What is the best location to attach tie-down straps to the underside of the car. Or are wheel straps the way to go?

Thanks for all advice.

If possible get wheel straps and tie down each wheel. You don't want to tie it down on areas where the car's suspension moves up and down slacking and stressing the straps.

Agreed.

I have always done the 4 wheels, and let the suspension move as it wants.

All he tow guys here do it that same way.

Which XJS did you go for?

OOPS, just read your other thread.

If you have to ask this you shouldn't be doing it. Pretty basic stuff.

It might surprise you to know that some people are able to learn from others in part by asking questions.

Your XJS has tie down points already resent. They were used when the car was shipped from the UK. Perfect factory solution.

I agree, a few, but a HUGE percentage of the answers are incorrect anyway. Blind leading the blind all over the place.

There are two tie downs at the front (metal rings). I don't know about factory tiedowns at the rear. When I trailered my car, I used the front rings and then used wheel straps at the rear.

Mike unless they have been removed there were/are two tie down points on the rear hub suspension arms (outboard).

Hi all. Thanks for everyone's helpful advice. We managed to get her home in one piece. We bought some Vulcan Car Tie Down with Chain Anchors Lasso Style that did the job. And we also found the two tie downs at the front so it was very secure and made the 5.5 hour journey home in one piece. And it also fit our 16' open trailer which was a relief.
