I am looking at buying an 86 XJSC, and am wondering how they are for structural rigidity and scuttle shake. I owned a 1990 XJS convertible for years, so am familiar with maintenance of the car and V12. But I always thought the 90 had too much scuttle shake. Am I right in assuming that an XJSC is much better in this respect?

Also, it's been a few years since I had an XJS, so if anyone could remind me of the common issues, that would be great.

I am happy to get stuck in and do maintenance / upgrades / bushings / whatever, all those things a 30 year old Jag needs!

The XJ-SC Cabriolet is much more rigid than the XJS Convertible. I tested mine on a bumpy dirt road (not voluntarily) and no shaking. If you find a good one for the right price, buy it.

The best feature is the rear soft top. At 100 degrees you can have the soft top down, keep the t-tops in and get fresh air without burning your skin. The only drawback is the lack of a back seat.

I am still regretting that I sold mine.

 

YUP ,got scuttle shake , i live with it because nobody else has a 1978 XJS roadster!

Thanks for the replies. So that's the big question, what's a good price? It's up for $6500 for a low miles California car, hopefully rust free.

 

Mine had a price tag of $6,995 at a dealership. I bought it half a year later with snow on it for $4,500. It was rust-free and low miles, but barely ran and had half a dozen dings from golf ***** and one dent from a shovel.

If it runs great, looks great and has documented maintenance history, $6,500 is not a bad start for negotiations.
