Default How to remove center console wood trim pieces?

Changing interior wood trim panels and haven't had any success removing the the center console, shifter surround & ashtray cover with out fear of breakage.

Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

The wooden trim panel is held in by 8 clips - 3 down each side, 1 just inboard of each of the two switches. It looks like it would be easiest to start at the rear of the panel. Unfortunately, the manual just says "Carefully release the 8 clips".

That's for the 5.0, but the clips are in the same place.

I bought a trim removal kit from the autoshop (plastic pieces, probably $15 or so) which was useful for some bits. But the centre console itself has a very tight fit, so I found the best thing for that was to slip in a butter knife, and lever it up very gently.

Be very careful. I stared at the back using a plastic puddy knife, gently prying up and slowly moving forward. It's a bit easier if you remove the ash tray cover and the piece that surrounds the nav screen first.

Default Trim Removal Roadblock!

I am stuck, I cannot seem to get the Ashtray Veneer to Slide off. The graphic shows holding the Black plastic underside steady with a Screwdriver while having it 1/4 way open and Sliding the top veneer off. How much force do you need to slide it off? Feels like I will break the whole assembly.

That is exactly how I did it and it came off relatively easily. You are pulling it towards you?

Yes, thanks. Pulling it towards me. Its just the veneer that slides off correct?
If i hold with the screwdriver tool on the left the whole assembly seems to want to twist and I'll damage it. It does not appear to want to come off.

There are 4 tabs. Here is a pic of mine flipped over, maybe that will help.

That's very nice of you! Thanks! I can see the tabs but that sucker is not sliding off! I'll regroup and try again when I'm not so frustrated!

That manual has been slightly ambiguous today

Yeah, I think they tend to assume you already know what you're doing, so it's just a checklist or aide memoire to make sure you don't forget anything. Not as helpful as it could be for us amateurs...

1. open the Ashtray approximately as far as the blue arrow.

2. put your screwdriver on the corner of the black plastic subframe arrowed in red

3. holding the subframe back with the screwdriver, pull the lid forwards using the handle arrowed in green

It should release without much force.

I suppose that's quite possible if one of more of the four plastic locating pegs on the underside of the ashtray lid have been broken.
