Default '03 XKR replacing of shift plate

Hi all-
First timer here and thanks in advance for reading. Shift plate in my 2003 XKR rag top got busted and was lucky enough to find another one (please see attached photo). Problem is we can't seem to get the shift knob off etc in order to switch it out. I even brought it to my local Jag dealership and the head mechanic couldn't figure it out. I'm taking it you need some sort of wrench to clockwise move the silver collar below the knob in order to start the procedure? Everyone seems a bit baffled.
While I have your attention.... The drivers side seat belt female end broke. Best way/place to find a replacement and install? (photo attached).
Car only has 34K miles on it and these are the only two issues I have.
Sincerely appreciate your time!
Ian

If its like any other ones, it just twists off. They usually have some lock tight on there.

You should wrap it in a towel to prevent scratches, then grab it with a monkey wrench and twist it off. The lower collar will screw off after.

Should be standard thread... counter clockwise to loosen.

Yeah, it's on there really good. Put more towels on it and maybe tape the teeth on the wrench.

Also, this isn't the correct forum for your year car. You need the X100 forum. This is for the X150 model.

If you have a heat gun, get the base of the knob where it goes into the threaded shaft really hot. That should expand the knob away from the shaft a bit and make it easier to turn. If you have a small ice pack, wrap it around the shaft to keep it from expanding. Be careful to not damage the leather knob.

If you don't have a heat gun, use a hair dryer.

Be very careful when using regular or locking pliers, as it's really easy to damage the knob. +1 on the above advice to tape the teeth on the wrench and wrap a towel around the knob.

FYI, your car is an X100 and this is the X150 sub forum.

that said, I used to have a 2003 XKR and had the same issue. My shift knob was stripped so we had to pry it off. I ended up getting a nice wood one that now is in my 2007 XK.

Also, when you do get the knob off the cables are a pain to get out. Search the X100 area and I think the procedure is covered (I think I may have posted some pointers so you can search by my user name).

best of luck.
