I am trying to remove the gear shift knob on my 2003 XKR. I loosened the silver adj. piece under the knob and tried to unscrew the knob but the knob just turns and does not unscrew, It looks like the plastic insert liner is stuck or cross threaded and the knob is just slipping on it. I assumed that the knob would come off the same way as the one on my XK8. Any ideas out there?

The wooden one on my 02 XKR is just screwed on

 

My 2003 XKR has the chrome/leather one. My XK8 has the wood one and it comes off OK.

 

It should just unscrew. If the plastic liner is spinning, you might need to destroy it to remove it.

 

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I think I will just let it stock for now.
