Default 07 XK start issues after getting interior wet

Rain storm caught me with my windows down while shopping. Not more than about 4-5 minutes but when I tried to roll up the windows it wouldn't go into the ON mode/position. Dude nearby gave me a tarp, thank god.

Here is what works: interior lights, steering tilt, radio (but not console) manual park brake, trunk button.

Here is what doesn't: windows, no dash activity, mirror adjust, center console, AC/heat, and doesn't start.

Battery was disconnected overnight while the car dried out with large fans. But no progress.

Any thoughts? Any similar experience? Have I just not waited long enough to dry out?

UPDATE: After pushing the start button a million times it suddenly came on and started. THEN - would not shut off. Had to push another thousand times to get it to shut down. Still being fussy.

Obviously, the large fans made progress. Hopefully, your 2007 XK is now parked in your garage where it is dry. Keep doing the fans for at least another day so more electrical stuff can dry out as much as possible. Also, make sure your battery is fully charged before you try to start it again.

If it starts and runs, and the start/stop button works normally, see if the automatic climate control works properly. If it does, switch it to maximum heat to further dry the interior. Thereafter, see if everything else works and, if so, take it for a short drive.

Hopefully, you got lucky.

Get the OBDII Diagnostic Trouble Codes, clear them, and see which ones, if any, return.

Let us know what happens.

From what you describe, is the issue your start/ stop switch?
@Bill400 wrote an excellent post about disassembly and cleaning.

Repeatedly pressing the brake pedal before pushing the start button will make it difficult to start. Here's my post from 2013, which I've previously posted repeatedly. It's how I've always started my XKR, notwithstanding the Owner's Handbook to the contrary.

I would use a wet/dry vac with a narrow nozzle around switches as well as what you are doing - trapped water can take a long time to evaporate. Like Sean recommended - pull the switch described in Bill's posts.
