07 xkr locking on exit question
About twice a week when I get out of the car I push the rubber button on the outside door handle to lock the car, the horn give two short chirps and the car does not lock. If I take the smartkey out of my pocket and hit the lock button it locks fine. Am I doing something stupid? Do you think this is one of those infamous low battery gremlins? Thanks in advance.
Kinda weird - the chirp-chirp usually means a door is still open, or the smartkey is still in the car. If it was a door sensor going flaky, it shouldn't lock from the smartkey either, so that's unlikely to be the problem. My guess is: an issue with recognition of the smartkey by the keyless entry system. Could be a problem with the transponder in the door or the key itself. You could try using your spare key instead - if the problem goes away, it's the key; if it doesn't, it's something in the keyless system.
Ahhhhh....
You might want to get yourself one of those. Unfortunately, as far as I know, you need someone with the Jag diagnostic system to associate the new key with the car.

Yes, I intend to inquire next week. It will be its first trip to the Jag dealer re that P0442 code you were cluing me in about last week. I've read the threads about the keys here in the forum. Sounds like another BOHICA moment.
On these newer cars go... clearing the memory of any "misplaced" keys is a must! As far as you know, the lot boy kept the second, and your Jag will simply go missing one day.... Your not going to like the price of the second fob and programming, but the rule for this type entry system is "just do it"... BOL Vince
May be barking up a wrong tree here but could the spare key be inside the car? Maybe down the side of a seat? Or even in the key slot under the arm rest? I ask only because I had a similar situation with the trunk when I left a key in there (would not close until I pressed the lock button on the fob) and this could explain the double chirp. Though I can't imagine why it doesn't happen every time.
