07 XKR 'vert on BAT
Anyone following this auction? Car looks abused. One of the many problems is the partially operational top. No pictures of the top open. No video open/close. Shop replaced just the RH cylinder. Seller says 75% close electronically. Top is closed in pictures so manual close to complete? Maybe not enough fluid. Shop website pictures include Porsche, AMG, Audi, etc. so they should have been able to completely fix it. My guess is the seller didn't want to pay $$$$ and/or Jag SSD needed.
Based on condition of car, needed a new battery. Both rear windows are in down position. Start w reset. Side windows are operational. No top open/close video so can't confirm windows are synchronized w top.
After the cylinder replace, is Jag SSD part of the solution to make the top fully operational?

Following it, but too many things wrong to be seriously interested. Don’t think SDD is required for a top replacement. They’re trying to unload the car without further time or money into it.
Where's the link to the auction? Why didn't you include it? All we know is that it's a 2007 XKR convertible, and from what you said, it appears to need a lot of work. That's OK, because that's what some buyers want - a really cheap XKR -: because they have the knowledge, equipment, and experience to fix it and either enjoy driving it or sell it at a profit or for its parts.
Does the seller own the car? Or is it being sold on consignment? Is there a reserve?

At first glance, it's a great looking XKR with attractive colors, a clean CarFax, Adaptive Cruise Control and a great sounding exhaust. Look closer and the driver's seat is badly worn, the grille isn't OEM and the growler badge is missing. That makes me suspect it had front end damage and was repaired on the cheap.
This XKR is an example of why you can't rely on a clean CarFax to buy a car. Read the comments and it gets worse, especially the undercarriage corrosion. This XKR has more unknown repair costs than dogs have fleas.

Hi Stuart. Sorry about the confusion. Started the thread w “07 XKR ‘vert listed on BAT. I should have provided a link. Thanks KJ. Seller says “our loss/your gain and no reserve. Agree KJ they just want to get of it. My question is about replacing one of the cylinders that opens/closes the roof. Is this plug and play? Need to use SSD? The top only closes 75%. The shop billed for another hour to get the roof to close. Something’s going on. Thanks for any feedback. Jimb
Stuart, agree w your comments. I think the non op top is a big issue. So is the undercarriage corrosion. Yeah, top cylinder has been replaced but no open/close video so current status unknown. Slow drive video is odd. Is seller afraid something will break? My experience w Jaguars is that it's cheaper and easier to spend more up front and get a good well maintained one. Be interesting to see what it sells for.

I've been watching it and share the opinions here. Looks good at first glance but is sketchy once you look closely. It's no reserve so is there a low price where it's worth buying and addressing its needs? Surely it will go up more than the current bid of $5100 and at that price I think someone could make a sizeable profit parting it out. Some unsuspecting person will overpay as that is the norm with most cars on BAT.

The dash and door card bubbling, along with all the interior scratches (and worn seat as mentioned earlier), kind of turn me off on this one.
I really like the interior color, but also not a fan of a grey/silver exterior (apologies
to some of the fine folks here).

Shadow Grey, unique to the 4.2L 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition models, is not your typical grey color, as it varies with the lighting.
Even a less than perfect XKR for $5200 would be worth it, if one didn't mind parting things out. The wheels alone could get half that back upon selling. Then headlights would about break even.
Why buy an abused car w badly damaged interior (use, sun and water) and non op top? Odor? Also ancient tires, consumables, corrosion related problems, etc, etc. Dealer (w lots of Jag experience) is dumping it. No top video. Slow drive video (probably because ancient tires, maybe brakes). My guess is sale 8-9.5 for parts, uneducated buyer or sleazy flip. Agree w David and Cee Jay that parting it out would make money.
Great time to buy something better. Recent sales are a 2010 XKR (33k) sold for 20 this month. An 07 XKR (56k) sold 14.7 in Dec.
Nice car Stuart. Jag does colors so well.

Not only colors - the entire driving experience. I consider the X150 to be Ian Callum's best design, except for the C-X75. It's a concept car that could have saved Jaguar. Too bad they never produced it.

I agree........mostly. I would say the Gen 1 AM Vanquish (along with the DB9) is his most striking design. But, OK, the x150's lines are more subtle and arguably more beautiful while the Vanquish is brutish.
Back on topic: the BAT car is now up to $6300. Still a good part-out price.
It sold - $13,750 + BAT fee.

Fourteen years ago, Jaguar failed on producing a ground-breaking machine that would have been a huge success.
