2007 Jaguar XKR High Mileage
Hi everyone, I'm currently 22 and I have the opportunity to buy a 2007 Jaguar XKR with 93k miles for $16k. I'm coming from a BMW and a genesis so i don't have too much knowledge on these cars. The car is currently owned by an older guy who doesn't drive it anymore, and it just sits in his garage. The car has a stage 2 tune aswell.
Because it's not stock, I am alittle wary of it. I wanted to daily this car aswell, likely putting about 25 miles on it a day. So I was curious if I could get any advice on this? Are there any serious problems with these vehicles I should be on the look for? Or would this be a bad buy?
This is the message the owner sent me:
“Hello, we do not have maintenance history. It has not been to the shop during the time we have had it. There was a tire warning light that we had checked out and found nothing wrong with the tire. Suspension has been lowered with a facing spec suspension that we did not put on. The check engine light will occasionally come on but same with the tire there is nothing wrong just a fault in the system.”

$16,000 seems just a bit high for a 2007 with near 100k miles. Add the extra problems and the weird suspension.... (what actually IS that anyway? What was replaced or modified?) The price now seems too high to me.
It is 18 years old, so anything an old car would need should be done. All new fluids EVERYWHERE, probably new suspension bushes, of course brakes and such. What condition is the driver seat? Catalytic converters would also be a concern along with those mentioned.

Can you DIY the repairs? Very expensive car to own if not. Now the good thing is the car is old and all the problems have long since been found out. So with this forum you have the best source of repair information out there!
It's an old car with 93K miles. It needs work now and it will need more work later.
Any check engine light sets a code. He just did not scan the car. Which I would do before purchasing it.
I also think that is a very high price but who knows?

The price seems a bit high. If you can diy most work and do not rely on it as your sole means of transportation..
maybe. If either of the last two points are a negative
..then NO...imo

If it's a car I like, I keep it. If it isn't, it's gone.
The debates about money and cost of ownership I leave to others. But be prepared for the expense of entering into this realm.
At 22, such expenses were outside of my means.
Fuel consumption will be the least of your worries. Maintenance and not too far into the future, an engine rebuild will be on the horizon.
As you've discerned, the question of "mileage" is a personal choice.
And for what it's worth, "just a fault in the system" is a fault.
