Default 2007 XK or 2006 XJ8 ?

I'm deciding to purchase one of these two cars and am looking for feedback, just based on value. A 2007 Jaguar XK, 85,000 miles, $18,500. Or. A 2006 Jaguar XJ, 58,000 miles, $12,000. Both essentially one owner, near-new condition, maintained at obsession level. There are buyers waiting behind me, so I have to decide quickly. Thanks for any thoughts!! Here are the links. 2 different worlds so it depends on what you are looking for and what you want to satisfy. One for family and one for fun. What do you want?

What he said

+ the XJ8 will cost you more to maintain. Much more imo.

Assuming you've test driven both? They don't handle the same. The best way I can describe it is when you're driving the XJ8, Jaguar want to make sure your don't "feel" the road.

When your in the XK, Jaguar want's you to "feel" the road. And it's fantastic...

I have owned both; they are totally different and I love both of them. The xj8 is a very very comfortable and luxurious car that handles beautifully for a luxury sedan, and it is plenty fast. The XK is a very comfortable touring car but the suspension is less forgiving. To sum up: they are both excellent, reliable cars but so different that you might as well ask whether you should eat a banana or an orange. I have no idea why anyone would say that the xj8 will cost more to maintain since they both use the same 4.2 litre engine and ZF transmission. The xj8 has air suspension, however. This sometimes can develop faults but in fact it can be converted easily to a normal coil and shock suspension if that becomes an issue, or, more cheaply, you just replace the faulty part. In 5 years of ownership my xj8 (x350) gave me not a single problem, nothing. And the 2007 XK - exactly the same story: not a single problem, nothing. In fact the only issue I have had with both cars is speeding tickets.
So your decision is not between which is better ( both are superb) but which will suit you better.

The fact you posted your question in this forum rather than the XJ8 forum might be a subtle hint as to where your heart lies.
Regards,

One of the deciding factors. With 7 children, 3 children-in-law, and 2 grandchildren, I've done my family-car duty!

My test-drive experience exactly. Very familiar with the XJ-type drive. The XK, not so much.

Thank you for your thoughtful, helpful reply. These were my struggling thoughts. Best scenario would have been to have both!

Same here: Went with my husband while he bought his new car and ended up trading my Chrysler 300C in for the XK.

Thank you to everyone for your insights. The decision became easy when I went with my gut. Ready for a change from the large Chrysler 300C but wanted to keep the feel of the Hemi engine. My family will attest that I'm pretty obsessive about "my" car and really don't drive other people around--in 6 years only my husband drove my car--once, and if a passenger drops a piece of lint, they say I scream like a horror movie. So no need for extra room. (The grandkids in the photo won't fit with their car seats.) I'm only struggling to adjust to the older features and kinks--my center console wouldn't open (until I rigged a solution, thanks to Forum advice), and the Bluetooth doesn't recognize my phone, nav system is a bit outdated. Otherwise, a dream! Thank you again to everyone for weighing in. Love this community!

Congrats!

Yes, the technology portion of this car is not up to par with other vehicles in the same year and class. It isn't terrible by any stretch, it gets the basics done. The funny part is that my 2012 has essentially the same system, so it is REALLY behind on the tech. As long as I have a solid sound system and decent screen all else is god.

In the end the tech is the minor part of the equation, not when you are driving in that beautiful XK.

XK is a big step up from XK8, especially in convertible form.
