I can't get the ashtray to stay open, I can slide the cover back but it just closes when I let it go. Any ideas on how to fix it?

There is a little double latch thing inside the dash area of that door. You have to remove a bunch of stuff to get to it, and it's probably a broken arm of plastic. Probably repairable by bodging, but a good amount of work.

 

You have to take out the lower trim around the shifter to get to it (I don’t think I had to pull out the whole console, but it was almost 8 years ago, and I have taken out the console a couple of times, so maybe this was the first time?).
Anyway, in my case, the lid latch is a round disk type dohicky, and it had simply fallen out, and was laying on the carpet under the ashtray unit (you do have to remove the whole ashtray assembly, so look it up in the service manual).
Since there is nothing, other than friction holding that disk in place, I used some fine picture hanging wire to create a support under the disk to hold it up in place (had to drill a couple of tiny holes in the plastic to run the wire though).
That was one of the first things I fixed on my car after buying it, again almost 8 years ago, and has worked fine ever since.
