2007 XK Convertible
Car been sitting for about 3 weeks. Motor would not turn over...obviously, the battery was the issue. When opening up the area to remove the battery, there was what appeared to be corrosion at the bottom of the battery (both sides) not on the actual battery cables. (See attached photos of battery area and clamp block) Appears the corrosion ate into the aluminum block holding the battery. Has anyone ever seen this before? I'm concerned about possible corrosion on the body of the trunk.

Thanks. I don't see any cracks in the battery on either side. Just bought this car last summer. First Jag. There is a trickle charging cable and charger that the seller included. Would leaving it plugged in a lot cause this? Also, how is the battery bracket that holds the battery in place removed? Appears there is some corrosion under it.

Sounds like a new battery may well be needed, knowing the voltage is always good info to have. A faulty regulator could also let it go too high when the motor is running. I was taught to neutralise the sulphuric acid with sodium bicarb and then to rinse with hot water, there may be better methods now.. watch your eyes and rubber gloves etc... coat things around the terminals and area with vaseline, or ??
Maybe check the "charger" that you have, it may be a maintainer type, believe they typically hold the voltage at just above 13v, but would use a higher voltage if actually charging. An old style constant voltage charger is good to have around if you ever have to bring a fully discharged battery back up... Our 07 has had its screen issues, so far self curing, battery is 4yrs old of unknown make, after good experience with an AGM type on the old m'bike that's what the XK will get next time; keeps its charge and stays totally dry.. Ours has been out of site since Nov., time is coming to take a look and see how it has survived hibernation..

When I bought my 2007 one year ago, I noticed corrosion on the battery tray and on the hatch floor below the tray. The battery had been recently replaced but the corrosion was not cleaned up.
So I removed the battery and battery tray. I cleaned up the corrosion on the hatch floor and installed a new battery tray (which is not too expensive compared to other Jaguar parts BTW.)
The OP asked how to remove the battery tray: just remove the bolts holding it to the floor, and it is also necessary to remove the electrical junction box on the left side of the tray.
I recall that you'll need Torx bit sockets. I also recall that one of the battery tray fasteners could not be replaced due to damage to the hatch floor, but there are sufficient remaining fasteners holding the tray in place.

Cheap Insurance
Don't let it happen again. Get a battery acid neutralizing mat for your new battery. Only $6.95 on Amazon or buy one from your local auto parts store.
Sorry, but the link to that Amazon item I previously posted didn't work.
