Default 2007 XK Convertible Maintenance History for 12 Years and 171600 Miles

This is a final maintenance update. After over 10 years in the same daily driver car, I decided I wanted something new with newer technology. Before the Jag I had owned Corvettes and Nissan Z cars. I explored replacing the Jag with a Jag F Type, a Corvette or a Nissan 370. I quickly ruled out the Nissan even though it had some interesting features. In the end, the technology of the Corvette won out and thus this will end my participation in this forum. In selling the Jag, I found that because of the high mileage most offers were in the $5000 range with a few in the $7000 range. In the end it was Facebook marketplace that led to my buyer at $9300. He was very pleased - doesn't use paddle shifters or his cell phone in the car. So the fact that they weren't working didn't bother him. He went away pleased as did I.

So here's the beginning to end of the non routine maintenance history.

2007 XK Convertible Blue. Date of Manufacture - June 2006. History does not include routine oil changes and minor things like changing light bulbs.

9777 miles - steering wheel control for track selection replaced under warranty.

14222 miles - low speed hit in rear - bumper cover replaced. $1754.44

20300 miles - another low speed hit in rear - bumper cover, reverse sensor and reinforce bar replaced. Beginning to think blue is a jinxed color. $2761.38

20341 miles - wheel alignment, intermittent battery problem solved by tightening positive battery cable clamp, intermittent failure outside temperature gauge, problem solved by display module update and tightening. Corrected under warranty

21134 miles -discovered paddle shifters were reversed (don’t use them so took a while to discover this). Corrected under warranty.

36500 miles - lousy stock tires replaced with Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires $1068.00

45235 miles - passenger side small window motor and regulator assembly replaced under warranty. Right visor making clicking noise when raised or lowered. Visor replaced under warranty.

44986 miles -front and rear brake pads and oil change. $567.09

61248 miles - replace satellite radio module - had a short. Replace thermostat and housing - $1938.48 and included an oil change and was done at a Jaguar dealer

82713 miles - front brakes, repair clogging AC condensation pan tube - this appears to be a design defect. $923.19. This was $373.00 to repair the drain issue by rerouting it and the remainder for the brakes

90714 miles - replace Continental tires with a new set. Got over 50K out of the first set. $1103.48

100980 miles - repair washer fluid leak - hose had come loose - $393.69 but this also included a tuneup with plugs and a fuel filter.

116112 miles - while parked someone damaged the drivers side rear quarter panel. It was very little damage but the quarter panel needed to be replaced. Because the car is aluminum, the repair cost the insurance company over $9000.

123305 miles - saw some drops of fluid on the garage floor. Found that the expansion tank for the radiator had a crack and it was replaced. $895.14 but this included an oil change, tuneup and drive belt replacement.

128069 miles - another driver drove me into the curb and I had to replace the front passenger side tire.

132181 miles - one front tire pressure monitor sensor broke and was replaced. $140.70

133650 miles - not really a repair but had all 4 allow wheels refurbished - taken down to bare metal, all curb nicks removed, all four put back into round and all repainted at $200/wheel and they look like new. - $800.00

About 130000 miles - tire dealer convinced me that the noise from the front right was a tire and I replaced the front tire that I had put on new because of the other driver running me into the curb. Turned out the noise was a wheel bearing.

134343 miles - front brake rotors and pads replaced, both front wheel bearings replaced, replace transmission fluid pan - $2572.16

March 2015 replaced battery under warranty with Duralast T8-DLG. This was a replacement of the same battery I had bought a year earlier. Not a great recommendation for Duralast.

144286 miles - replaced alternator on 9/26/16. $611.14

153432 miles - replaced rear brake discs and pads $575.87

153617 miles - replace two rear tires with Continental Extreme Contact DWS and replace two rear tire pressure sensors and alignment $912.35

165893 miles - replace two front tires with Continental Extreme Contact DWS $583.86

168258 miles - the radio and cruise controls on the steering wheel were worn and the left hand silver area by the radio controls had gotten scratched up so I found a steering wheel from a junked 2011 for $165 and cannibalized the parts from it. Because I didn’t want to mess with the air bag, I had my shop do the install and at the same time tighten both of the trunk shock bolts that had loosened up to the point of being noticeable when I opened and closed the trunk. $289.50. Something they did with the steering wheel caused me to lose shift control by the paddle shifters. At first, we thought maybe they had failed to hook them back up but the issue was something else that we never determined because of the sale.

170986 miles - replaced passenger rear TPMS

Just about this time, the bluetooth phone connection stopped working

Approximately 172600 miles on October 22, 2018 sold for $9300.

An impressive mileage, and frankly not that many issues considering the time and distance travelled.

Were these the original discs being replaced? My rear discs are not going to make it to 75k.

EDIT: My car has ACC, which I've heard tends to affect pad/disc life?

A good question. I see where I did the front ones at 82713 miles. I just rechecked my repair invoices to see if I missed the rear ones earlier than 153432 and I don't find that I replaced them earlier. Seems amazing that the rear rotors lasted that long

Enjoy it but then again it's just another Corvette.

Not too many keep a Jaguar as a DD for 12 years. Other than the unwanted impacts by other drivers, your repairs list doesn't appear excessive.

Pleased to hear you eventually got a sensible offer for it.

Wow Meng, if that's all that needed attention in that mileage, I can only hope for something similar.
My non-daily driver will never reach that mileage (by me anyways), so most repairs will be time related, and I've already crossed off a few on that list.
Best wishes for you and your new ride.

I hope you like the Corvette more than I did. Actually, the 2018 Sting Ray was a bit of a disappointment for me. I thought it would be........ well , MORE.

Meng

I wish you well as you move on.

Having owned an X100 for 14yrs (up until June of this year) I do get the benefits of long term ownership and how attached you can become to a lump of metal. I put just 110k miles on mine in my ownership (70k by previous owner) and luckily did most of the maintenance (oil/filters/plugs/coils) myself. No huge expenses for me either in that time that weren't my choice (LPG conversion/retrim//polybush/lowering)

Wishing you oodles of luck and many happy miles with your Vette.
