It turns out that now the shop says the dashboard issue is unrelated to the drain issue. That is unfortunate as the leather shrinkage and separation on the dash looks to be endemic to many jags and the options to repair all result in the removal of the dashboard which really is never recommended unless it absolutely has to be removed.

Ouch! 3500 dash repair is unpleasant indeed.
