Default 2007 XK - Fuel Cap Warning

Hey guys, anybody come across fuel cap warning. It just showed up while I was driving down the highway. I didn’t recently fill the tank or anything. So I’m curious what triggers this warning. Any tests or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bad cap is possible. Also, over tightening will cause it as well as under tightening. Check the seal condition. Put some gas in and tighten as per directions on the cap. There can be additional causes but the cap will be the cheapest and easiest to eliminate.

Clean the top of the filler tube and the inside of the cap. Wipe a little vaseline on both surfaces. Put the cap back on, turn until you hear 2 clicks, and see if you still get the warning.

If you still get the warning, replace your gas cap with a genuine OEM Jaguar gas cap. Do not buy a cap from your local big box auto parts store. Good price for this one:

Thanks guys,
I did fill it up on my trip and tighten the cap until I had the three clicks. I still had the morning after that so I’ll probably try a new gas cap. Thanks again I’ll let you know what I find out.

Be cautious with the description OEM as the filler cap had several revisions over the X150 production run. A genuine part is not necessarily the right part.

I like to check P/N's with Jaguar Classic site to see what is applicable and what is current for a model and VIN:

Don't get too excited about listed parts cost - you may not get the same rate in the US as we do in the UK.
