Default 2007XK Rear Brake pad and rotor wear after 20k miles.

I decided to have a local independent shop do my oil change at 20,000 miles. As always they come back with other items they've found out of spec. No problem with that but I'm both surprised and concerned at what they found. The rear break pads and rotors are essentially worn out. Pads are at 3/32 which OK they wear out and 20k miles is low but for the rotors to be below minimum thickness blows my mind. Firstly the fronts are fine at 11/32" on the pads and the rotors are well inside the spec. Secondly I don't drive it extremely hard. Yes I have my moments but I'm not heavy on the brakes.

Anyone found this on their XK or ever heard of it before? Is this not unusual? It suggests to me that there's a bias of braking power to the rear which doesn't make sense.

Cost to install none OEM rotors and pads $600.

Any thoughts, advice, explanation or suggestions most welcome.

Steve.

I just replaced rear pads 26K and rotors we just thick enough, but will need to be replaced the next time for sure. Not sure if these are the original pads or not.

Make sure to go with OEM rotors and you should consider ceramic pads as the OEM are quite dusty.

Its normal, and because you dont brake hard more so. Light braking gets more rear pad to minimise nose dive, also stabilty control and traction control weigh in very heavily.

Thanks mosesbotbol and Brutal. I follow that logic. Now to search the forum and identify the best pads. I recall tons of threads on ceramic pads versus the OEM's. Definitely want to reduce the dust issue. While I'm at it I may as well do the fronts as well.

Agree it's "normal." After owning 3 XKs buying them is the cheapest part of the proposition.
