Default 2008 trunk closure

I just bought an 2008 XK and am wondering about the trunk closure. I have to slam mine down "old school" from a bout 12 24 inches to close. Is this normal? My XJ I would push it closed and then the mechanism would grab it and close it tight.

I was told from the dealer this is normal but I have a hard time believing the XJ's and the new XF on loan has this locking mechanism and the XK does not. Thoughts?

This I can't believe either. Have a look at the rubber stops in the bodywork, they can be adjusted to make it easier.

Failing that, it may just require adjustment in the locking arrangement.

You could also try looking at another car in a dealers just to see.

Is it the same way on the pre-2007 models? I thought it weird at first, but anything to reduce the weight of this already heavy car is a plus in my book.

It is possible that only the XFs and XJs got the soft close in later years, but still, don't have to slam it from 24" to close it. Should grab it much easier.

Confused... Is the OP (Welcome to JaguarForums, BTW) talking about the Coupe or Vert?

I believe the factory did not offer a power trunk pull-down on 2007-2013 XK/XKR (X150) models (coupe and convertible).

The trunk lid on my 2009 convertible latches easily, without having to be slammed. If you have to really slam yours to get it to latch, it might be out of adjustment or damaged from a collision and not properly repaired.

In a word: no.
The trunk lid latches with a reasonably light touch on the pre all aluminum models.

The trunk closes rather easily if you locate the cut out on the left inside of the hatch lid. Just put your hand into the cut out and pull down and release. It will close with the proper force needed to secure it shut.

Default Trunk closure

On the 2006 model is there an opening in the lid on the left hand side? It is a cutout on my 2007 model year. I usually place my left hand in the opening and pull down to close it without having to slam it.

The X150 (alloy body) was first introduced as a 2006 model in the UK and a 2007 model in the US.
Alonco is in the UK, Elindo is US, same car. See their photos.

I had a problem closing mine. I had to slam it and even then it took a couple of tries. I took it to the dealer and they adjusted it. Works fine now with just a slight push.

Mine had to go in yesterday for a change of aspirator due to buzzing.

I asked them to adjust the boot / trunk for me and they did, much better now.

That said I had tried advice by Elindo above and that did make a dramatic difference, significantly reducing the frequency of the need to double slam!
