Default 2009 XK battery

I apologize for starting another battery thread, but I need to get the current, correct info.

My 2009 XK battery died. Calling around the local AZ, and Advanced parts stores, they are telling me it takes a “group 93” battery. I’ve been told in the past, that it should be a group 49, which should fit like the OEM size.

Would someone who recently bought a battery, let me know which is correct?

Thanks in advance.

this is the Jaguar battery that is currently installed.

My last battery for my 2009 XK was a group 49 AGM from Batteries Plus. Free installation and it’s been going strong for almost 4 years. I use a CTEK most of the time.

And the version is clearly identified in the workshop manual.

For the 4.2l NA and SC, T8 battery, 90 Ah, 800 CCA.

NTB, there are varying qualities of T8 sized batteries. Pay cheap, get cheap.

I thought that the group 49 is correct. Do you mind saying where you purchased it?

the only parts place that agrees to group 49, is the AAA repair facility. Unfortunately, they won’t give me a warranty, unless I bring the car in, for their install. Car is totally dead, and I don’t want to drive it with a bad battery.

Group 49. My last battery purchased was a Bosch AGM from Pep Boys (they installed for free, which I think they regretted after the fact ) back in November 2017 (just looked that up, guess it’s getting long in the tooth, and I better start shopping for a replacement ).

Any real auto supply shop will source you the correct battery - even the local Walmart had an XKR battery on the shelf with the selection/lists for all the makes.

Make sure it's fully charged before fitting as you can't guarantee it's full at purchase.

Its an exact fit because it is the T8 size. It also has the right specs.

So, the T8 and Group 49, are one and the same?

In a word… NO!
I kept bringing it up and everyone was ignoring my input. There is only one authorative source for information like this. Its Jaguar.
Those who choose the other battery choices end up with a parcel tray that doesn’t sit correctly…. as the other batteries are taller.

Guy,
Not to belabor this, but if I understand you correctly, you are saying that the T8 Group is the one that is an exact fit?

You’re starting to annoy me I think I need a negroni…

The T8 sizing is the sizing explicitly mentioned in the workshop manual, comes standard with the vehicle, and fits perfectly.

cheers @SDCR_XK !

I prefer Kilkenny Ale in these situations at the right British Temperature:

Or you could hit the great reset button:

According to Canadian tire the group 48 is taller than t'other:T8 spec by Yaguar.

Group Size 93/T8 - Maximum Overall Dimensions (L x W x H): 13-15/16" x 6-7/8" x 6-7/8\" (354 x 175 x 175 mm)

Group Size 48/49-Maximum Overall Dimensions (L x W x H): 13-15/16" x 6-7/8" x 7-1/2\" (354 x 175 x 191 mm)

It would fit in the space height-ti-tude wise - if I remember rightly from the last install.

I stand corrected, thanks. IIRC I selected Group 49, as it was recommended in another thread (and I think the AGM I wanted only came in that size).

Yes, it fits just fine, plenty of room for that extra 5/8” height.

I installed a group49 several months back, LA. It now discharges to 12.1 overnight. So, back to ctek until I"m ready to find the mysterious draw.
FWIW, just used Intersate's 'chooser' and it states that T 8 is not correct for my 2008. Such a shame that there is so much incorrect info available to mere mortals.
