Default 2009 XK Steering wheel

Hello all and thanks for your input. I have a 2009 XK black with tan interior and the steering wheel (all leather) is looking tired. I've cleaned it and cleaned it but it still gets sticky quite easily and it has developed some areas of wear that appear to be the high contact zones. A few questions: ideas on making it look and feel as good as possible? How difficult is it to replace and where's the best place to get a replacement? Is there a wood/leather combination that incorporates the heated steering wheel feature? (Here in Rhode Island we think that is indispensable, especially in the fall and early spring!). Thanks again!

The wood/leather combo was only offered on the 2007 XK series. May have also been on another model (XF?) for additional years?
Don’t know if it can still be ordered through a dealer (mega-bucks), otherwise you might find it through an autobreaker, ebay, or elsewhere.
They are pretty rare and hard to find (I’ve been watching ebay for about 5 years, and have only seen one come up in that color (same as mine, and I’ve been looking for a spare), and that was 5 years ago and included the whole steering column. Should have bought it then...).

Hi Cprhodes
I use this stuff on all leather in my car (2008 XKR coupe with same color combo as yours) as well as furniture. I haven’t had a sticky wheel problem although mine was pretty dirty but cleaned nicely.

Glad to see another X150 near by. I live near URI so maybe we can meet up when plague restrictions ease. I can give some of the cleaner to see if it helps.

All the cleaning and conditioning products in the universe may be of no help whatsoever to restore your leather steering wheel. Automotive leather has a polyurethane coating on top of the dyed leather, and when that polyurethane coating wears off the dyed layer becomes exposed and suffers from abrasion and discoloration. At that point, restoring the leather means redying and resealing.

Stuart is correct. If the finish coat and/or underlying leather is damaged, you will need to refinish the leather. There are additional discussions in the link he provided and others in various forums that will give other owner’s experiences in this regard.
