Default 2009 XKR Portfolio Brakes

Are the 400mm front and 350mm rear disc diameters with red rotors fitted as standard on the 2009 portfolio?

I was going to say yes - but I just found pics of several different 09 portfolios online and not all of them have alcon brakes (with red calipers and crescent shapes milled into the rotors).

Not all Portfolios are the same.

Originally it was a limited special edition model but now Portfolio is a trim level.

The 2009 XKR Portfolio coupe and convertible were available with several options, including Alcon brakes and adaptive cruise. See this link for details:
2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Details

My 2009 XKR Portfolio convertible has the following options: adaptive cruise ($2,300), Alcon brakes ($5,000), black soft top, rich oak veneer, ivory/slate upholstery ($1,000). Here's a close-up of the wheel/rotor/caliper:

Unfortunately, a spare wheel/tire was not available with the Alcon brake option due to the oversized front 6-piston caliper. Instead, you get a can of "fix-a-flat" and a 12v tire pump. The 20" Selena wheels are not compatible with run-flat tires. I keep a bible in the trunk and pray that I don't get a flat. So far, so good!

Correction: Depending on the run-flat tire, Selena wheels may be compatible. Unfortunately, at the present time, TireRack.com does not list any run-flats in OEM sizes. So you may have to increase/decrease tire width slightly to find a run-flat that might work.

Update: Compact Spare is available - see this link: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-brakes-67260/

Default Alcon Brake Pads

I have the Alcons too.

Anyone know which repalcement brake pads fit these and if they make a ceramic pad for the Alcon?

TIA

Default Alcon brakes

Interesting. I just got a 2009 Portfolio, advertised with Alcon R brakes and now I have read this thread, I am sure they are not. They are not red like in the photo in the post, the calipers are cast metal with a small red/green logo on - same colour as the XKR but funny. they dont look like an X a K or an R.
That said, I am not sure whether it is a good thing, there is a spare tire in the trunk so I don't need the bible and I am sure the non Alcon brakes are much less costly to repair / replace ?
I checked the link but could not see where they were options - would be interested to double check and make sure they have not been replaced, the car has 30K miles. If you could send the link showing the options.
Thanks

Mike,

Unfortunately, most of us can't join Topix. Jaguar's terms and conditions of registration and use provide, in part:
"Registration

The following conditions must be met:
Since most of us are not in the auto service or repair business, we don't qualify to join Topix and purchase subscriptions for access to workshop manuals, electrical diagrams, technical bulletins, and diagnostic release notes. But we do have free access to the Owners Handbooks and Accessory Fitting Instructions. Click on this link:TOPIx - TOPIx

Then select English and click on United States (for us Yanks) and then click Select.

Next, click the "Please Select" dropdown arrow, and then click on:
    X150 / XK (X150 is Jaguar's model designation for the 2007-up alloy body XK/XKR).

Next, click on the bottom dropdown box and select your model year and click Find.

Next, click Owner in the upper right corner. The topics available to owners are then listed on the left side highlighted in green. Check them all out.

I use the online Owners Handbook often, since it is much faster and easier to use than the hard copy version in my car.

Could someone share with me the bolt hole distance on the front and rear calipers? I am looking into the feasibility of having a bracket made before I purchase these calipers.

Hello Jag 2009 Portfolio Edition owner/drivers:

Recently purchased last week a 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition.

From the owners of this car, what can I expect as far as performance and any mechanical problems that perhaps you have encountered.

I had cermaincs on my old (pre-2006) XKR but my specialist had no luck finding ceramic pads anywhere for the Alcons. He did find some that were some kind of carbon compound or something. I'll find out exactly and report back.

I had them fitted because my brakes squealed a lot when braking gently from say 10 mph to 0. The new pads helped a bit but didn't completely eliminate it.

He's very knowledgeable about Jags and according to him such noises are to be expected with such big brakes and can't really be avoided. Seems odd to me though that Jag would be OK with that. Does anyone else with Alcons also experience loudly squeaking brakes under gentle braking like when rolling up to a red light or anything similar?

I had my front pads replaced with OEM (Alcon) pads without resurfacing the rotors since they still looked good. No squeaks or noise, no vibration, no pulling to one side. Very pleased with results. I can live with the brake dust problem.
