Default 2010 XK 5.0L P0500 code; Vehicle Speed Sensor "A"

2010 Jaguar XK 5.0L has four speed sensors—one for each wheel. I'm getting a P0500. It happened just after replacing the Battery.
Duralast Platinum H8-AGM; Group Size 49
Deep Cycle Capability:
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): 900 A
Reserve Capacity (RC): 160 minutes
Amp Hour (Ah): 92 Ah - 95 Ah
Voltage: 12 V
Dimensions: 13.94" L x 6.94" W x 7.50" H
Weight: 58.2 lbs
Warranty: 4-Year Free Replacement

NO engine Light, no other codes; I had an "Oxygen Sensor INC, up uintil two days ago and it finially went RDY.

Does anyone know which speed sensor is "A"? Someone said it's the right rear?

I tried to Monitor the live wheel speeds while driving to isolate which sensor is dropping out or reading erratically, but my $350 scanner does not have that option. So, I ordered all 4 sensors and going to replace all of them. Does anyone know if the code will just clear after I replace the bad one? It's listed as "Permanent" and can't be cleared with the scan tool. The car also failed California Smog yesterday because of this!

Anyone???

Hi M,

I have moved your post from the forum for the X250 (XF) to the forum for the X150, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 2010 XK.

There are four or five different P0500 DTCs and they all specify Sensor A. If I understand correctly, they identify a fault in the ABS DSC system but do not identify the specific wheel speed sensor causing the fault. For that information, you need to read the DTCs from the DSC module, which will probably be either Chassis (C-prefix) or Network (U-prefix) codes. Your scan tool may only be able to read Powertrain codes (P-prefix).

An independent shop that works on European cars should have a diagnostic system capable of reading all of the codes stored in all of the modules in your car, which will greatly accelerate your diagnosis and repair.

Another important thing to know is that often, a wheel speed sensor fault is due to a broken wire in the electrical harness, especially in the free-floating sections of harness between the rigid mounting points at the body and the sensors themselves at the wheel hubs.

Cheers,

Don

Thx Don, I could swear I clicked on XK/XKR (X150) when I wrote this, anyway I had the smog check service center pull all the codes with his $6,000 scanner and the P0500 was the only code found. I just replaced the front sensors I’m waiting for the rear ones to come in. Sorry about posting in the wrong forum. M

The smog centers are only concerned with Powertrain codes so they don't even try to read Body, Chassis or Network codes.

Replacing all the sensors may not resolve the DTC if the problem is in the wiring.

Cheers,

Don
