2010 XKR Back window
Hey, slb07jagxk.
I just purchased some new Velcro for my rear window. Haven't installed it yet, but I did do a bunch of research on it. I'm in the USA, the TapeStore online has all the different kinds for the Heavy Duty Dual-Lock Hook types. I purchased 3 meters of 3M SJ3542_0.75.
My situation is different than yours, my window is out of the car. I removed all the epoxy and Velcro from my window. My headliner's Velcro is in really good condition. I'm going to install the Velcro I purchased on the window before I install it. Then install the window back into the car. I haven't settled on what type of epoxy/glue to use on the Window to the Fabric interface at this time...
I did do a test with the Velcro I purchased, sticking a small piece of it onto a piece of glass I had, to make sure it stuck really well, it did. I've read sabout several Jaguar's TOP Velcro failing also.
The problem with all these rear windows on the 2010 to 2015/17 XK/XKR's are the design of how they (Jaguar) mounted the window and glued it to the fabric top. When the car is in the SUN every day, it bakes the epoxy/glue to the point of failure. The repeated HOT/COLD cycles will eventually will cause the connections to the Window/TOP to split apart. I've read many stories about this window failing. The other issue with this window is, when you put the top down, the pressure of the top folding onto it's self, puts extreme pressure on the window glass while it's in the storage pocket.
I've read several reports about "The window was fine, then I put the top down and drove it for several days" Then when I put the top back up, the window was not attached to the fabric top anymore... This is what happened to my car.
So, with the HOT/COLD cycling from the SUN/Weather & the top going up & down, will eventually cause the window to dislodge from the top and cause a Velcro failure. I went to the Jaguar Dealer a couple weeks ago and I wanted to hear the quote in person: He said it would be $21,500.00 (USD) to completely replace the entire top and it was a 6 -12 month wait time to order it. Then several months to install it. They send the car out to an external shop to actually do the work.
I looked at him and said "I can't believe you actually would say that to a Jaguar Owner/Customer". They just don't want to do it.. I know I got off track, but I'm really frustrated with my window problems too.
