2010 XKR Convertible 147,000 miles
I've owned a 2000 XKR, 2003 XKR and currently own a 2006 XKR Victory Ed. All with around 100k miles, so high miles don't scare me. But 147k miles is a whole another matter. Lets assume for now its been will taken care of and everything works. I'm I crazy for considering buying it if I could get it for around $18k? I've been looking for a 2008 or 2009 with around 100k for about $22k, but this would be a nice jump to 500 hp.

How good/bad buy it would be should depend on your ability to perform a good portions of your own maintenance and repairs. While the potential purchase prices are attractively low, you'd have to expect some expenses that could quickly run up quite steeply, unless you were to do the repairs yourself. At 147K miles you could expect to repair or replace just about anything; transmission, engine, smog, radiators, suspension pieces, etc.
I never owned a car in my long life that had over 100K on it, usually trading them around 70-80K. Still, encountered quite a few repairs, mostly done by myself. These days, I am not too keen on working on cars anymore, thus, all my cars are under various factory warranties :-).

I've owned a few Japanese cars well over 150k miles. I still have my 2003 350Z with 225,000 miles. I have only replaced the clutch and a few sensors.
I have no clue how well a Jaguar will hold up, but it is entirely possible with proper maintenance to make a car last a VERY long time. FWIW I am turning the Z into a weekend track car now and hope to have it for quite a bit longer.

I have a 2002 XKR with 160,000 miles on it that runs better than when I got it with 62000. Are there hiccups here and there, of course, but the engines are certainly capable of much higher mileage if they've been maintained regularly. Have schocks been replaced, how's the interior, etc., these are the questions you need to ask.

Interesting that someone would be able to put 164K on a 2010 but if they were mostly highway miles and if it were maintained it should be OK. I assume an inspection would show what needs to be replaced in suspension or drive train and if it is dry underneath then that would be a plus. Other then that the overall cosmetics would be the concern. Paint should be good but maybe the seat would show wear but if all is well go for it. I still take care of my wife's 89 Volvo which just turned 350K miles.

Maintenance is key - are the service history & CarFax complete & clean? Can you find out who's been servicing it & check with them? If the owner won't help facilitate that, start wondering what they're hiding. And does it drive well, without smoke or worrying noises?
