2011 XK 2 years of ownership
Just thought I'd post my 2 year experience of owning a used 2011 XK.
I purchased this car 2 years ago this month from a ford dealer in FL. Dealer was good to work with and car arrived mostly as described, but with a few issues... Nav DVD missing (i never asked, and they didn't note it), one rear tire had a slow leak.
I arranged shipping... this was a bad experience. Spend the extra money and pay a reputable shipper... don't use the fly by night companies that bid on the open market, unless you are a risk taker. Car arrived without damage, but communication was awful.
The car still had some of the 5/50k warranty left, took to nearest Jaguar dealer and got brakes, software updates and misc items covered. I asked about noisy ride from the rear, they checked it out and said it was the tires. Since car was still under warranty, I was able to purchase an extended warranty for $2800 (4 years, 25k miles).
I purchased a set of DWS 06 (20") tires at STS auto. These had just come out so I didn't get much of a discount. Came to about $1000 for the set, road force balance and alignment. For me, these tires were well worth it, much quieter, good low temp performance and a little peace of mind if it snowed a little while i was on the road.
Right before first long road trip, "Dynamic Mode Disabled" fault. Car drove fine on road trip... when I got back to the dealer they claimed a rodent ate through the wiring on one of the wheel height sensors... $280 not under warranty to repair wiring.
Car was now buttoned up... I had purchased a car cover, some missing minor fasteners, an East coast nav dvd from a forum member, ctek charger, Weathertech floor mats, and a cloned sdd reader and software. Lets call that $500 bucks total.
In October of last year, a driver went through a stop sign and lightly hit the driver side rear quarter panel. They admitted fault, and their insurance covered 100% of the $12000 repair at a Jaguar Aluminum repair shop. They removed the entire rear quarter panel (which is welded at the roof line on the coupe). Also had bent control arm, and damaged wheel repaired. They did a great job on the paint, respraying everything connected to the damaged panel with new clear coat, so blend is not noticeable to me.
In July, battery (Jaguar branded one dated 2013) died without notice. I think keeping it on the Ctek kept it going, but I was Amazed how there was no low battery warning. After a short drive it was dead as a door nail. I was parked right near a tire/battery shop, and they walked over and installed a new generic branded battery of the correct size for $160.
Soon after, I got an "Oil System Monitoring Fault", some codes related to evap system, and a blown fuse (F19 i think?). Replaced the fuse myself, which corrected the evap codes, but had to take to dealer for Oil System fault. Again, rodent damage not covered by extended warranty, $250 to fix wiring. Around the same time, my Covercraft cover was also damaged by a crazed squirrel.... to0 damaged to repair, so got a new cover for $190. I am now experimenting with a product containing fox urine to keep critters away... they love the soy based wires.
Overall, I am still very happy with the car, and plan on keeping it for another 2-3 years. The accident was a bit heartbreaking, and will probably make it hard to sell the car with the Car fax hit.
My biggest warning to prospective buyers is to be aware of the huge potential cost of body repair, even for a what looks like minor damage. My car would probably have been totaled if the accident happened a little further into the depreciation curve... and i might have been better off since I wouldn't have to deal with eventually selling a car that is marked with an accident on the car fax.
Hopefully I won't have any major updates for a few more years!
