Default 2011 XK Rear Brakes

Has anyone changed their rear brakes and rotors at home?

I have the workshop manual but have read that the electric parking brake release tool link lead 206-082-01 is required in order to do the job. Is there a way around this?

Is the job incredibly complex and I'm better off paying the dealer?

Emergency Parking Brake Release is........ Start car, put into gear, put back into park but Do Not Engage the E-Brake. Turn off ignition. If you don't want to put it into gear, leave it in P but push DOWN on the E-Brake controller while your foot is on the brake pedal.
Changing the pads and rotors is pretty much exactly the same as it is on any other car. The pistons do need to be rotated to collapse as is pretty much standard nowadays.

This maybe a stupid question, but I'm asking anyway.

When you put the car in Neutral, and then turn it off..won't the car put itself into park automatically? Do you leave the car on?

Some people have said to drop it into neutral then disconnect the negative on the battery. Do this when the car is on?

Car will drop from Neutral into Park after 10 mins - it gives you 10 mins to push it or whatever. To keep the wheels free for longer, you must manually release the transmission brake:

In the event of the vehicle requiring recovery, the park lock can be released manually with the use of the emergency park release mechanism. To release the park lock:
  •  Remove the trim cover from the rear of the floor console and locate the emergency park release lever.
  • Rotate the locking mechanism of the lever 90 degrees counterclockwise.
  •  Apply the footbrake, pull the lever upwards and ensure it is locked in the vertical position.
Raising the emergency park release lever causes the emergency park release cable to rotate the park interlock lever on the transmission, which disengages the parking pawl and engages neutral. This allows the vehicle to freewheel.

To re-engage the park lock:
  •  Hold the strap on the emergency park release lever, release the latch and lower the lever to the horizontal position.
  •  Lock the lever by turning the locking mechanism 90 degrees clockwise.
  •  Install the trim cover.
