You will no doubt find the cause was an overheated/overworked alternator. This is why they are water cooled.

Water cooled ???? A few months after I bought my 2012 I was concerned that the alternator was not charging correctly. I ASSUMED it was bad so being a CPO car I called my dealer and discussed getting it replaced. They agreed and I had it done even though now understanding how the new charging system works , but they did it. I asked to see the replacement alternator. It looks like a normal unit which is air cooled so can you please clear up what you meant about it being water cooled.

Many alternators in our type of cars are water cooled. Where load can spike and the engine compartment is cramped- i.e. insufficient air. Ours is not. M6 for instance, is (competitor)

p.s also those who think rust-proofing with oil is a good idea may want to think again.

Default Still Looking for replacement XKR

Ever since the fire I posted about totaled my 2012 XKR convertible, I have been looking for a replacement. It was not my daily driver so I thought about getting something different to replace it. After looking at AMGs, Vs, Ms, Rs and all the other manufacturer's "High Performance" brands, I am back to looking for an XKR. I can't find a different car that has the performance, power, and beauty of the XKR that sells for the great value that used XKRs sell for.

So all members, if you know of a 2012 or newer XKR convertible for sale in excellent condition please let me know. I don't want a black car and it seems 80% are black.

I don't care where it is in the U.S., I live in Memphis and bought my 2012 in Virginia. I regularly check Auto Trader and Carmax. The Jag dealer site for CPOs won't let you search for cars anywhere in the country, which is dumb.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

There is a 2014 XKR convertible on Craigslist at a Jaguar dealership here in the Seattle area. It has 23,000 miles and is $58,000.

1 month's salary for many thousands of folks in that area. People who have their head down in work, dont really know what car prices are in the rest of the country, and expect things to cost more in the area, many are fresh off the boat. In other words, they are long on money- short on time.

Heck many of them wont even know that its a model from yesteryear. Nor care.
They go by what's in front of them- and what they see is a beautiful thing.

think2win,

I join the chorus in expressing my thoughts for a speedy recovery for your vision. Glad to know it wasn't worse and hope you recover fully. I followed the steps for jump starting to a "T" the one time I had to jump my XK. Pulling of the clamps and being very careful not to touch anything, I saw serious sparks and lots of smoke. That was over 6 months ago and no problems since. I now keep my car on a trickle charger every single time it is parked to avoid the need to jump again. Last time it was just because I didn't close the boot fully and the light drained down the battery. Good luck again with a speedy recovery.

The boot lights should turn off eventually. The ones on my '07 used to anyway:

If the glove compartment lights, luggage
compartment lights, reading and
map lights or vanity lights are switched
on, and the ignition switch is in
convenience mode or the remote
handset is removed, the lights will
automatically turn OFF after
approximately 15 minutes after returning
from convenience mode to power off.
