2012 XKR headlight units - will they fit pre-2012?
Apologize if this has been asked before. I did a search and couldn't find any specific thread on such a conversion. Specifically interested in they can be fitted to a 2010 XKR.
Thanks in advance to anyone who may know something about this.

Just my 2c but I thought that LED headlight-edge lighting made the car look hopelessly gay the first time I saw them a few years ago (on an Audi).
I still haven't changed my opinion about them, and was very disappointed to see that Jag didn't have better taste than to also jump on that bandwagon.

Bingo, this was exactly what I was looking for? Did you end up trying to retrofit those headlights? I'm very interested in doing it. I absolutely love those lights. I would assume if the bumper needs to be changed, then the bumper reinforcement would as well. I've done a facelift upgrade on my old E class(w211) wayyy back so I'm pretty familiar with the process. Would be much more comforting if I knew someone had done it before though

Just for info, its now a legal requirement in UK for permanent running lights. I think it started in 2011. All comes from BMW and their 'Angel eyes', and the 'EU' pandering to the Germans. Thus Jaguar have had to follow suite. By the way my UK xk has orange side lights as well as whie ones. (white in UK, orange in US). Saves on designing different clusters I think. I'm with you and think it spoils the look, we want 'GRRRRR 'not 'hello sailor'!

Hi there,
I'm new to this forum and I'm sorry for reviving such an old thread. But I plan to purchase a pre-facelift XKR convertible..., and would love to do the front conversion (with fenders, bumper and headlights).
I've found several sources that state that it should all fit well together, but haven't found any input on the obviously present wiring issues. Has anyone deeper knowledge about this conversion/update or could point me to a source where I can get more info about this particular question.

You're going to need new front fenders, front clip, the headlight assemblies themselves, and likely the hood too. You're going to be into it about 5000 for parts alone, let alone labor, paint, and any other hidden bits that will have to be purchased or fabricated. I honestly can't see this conversion costing less than simply targeting a '12 or newer unit.

The real issue is the wiring... as the pre-facelift models don't have DRLs installed.

I was having this discussion last night with some colleagues. They are mostly into american muscle and talking about engine swaps. The comment was made that unless you are emotionaly tied to a car that is always best to just buy the car the came with said motor. I agree. It's most always cheaper in the long run and works better - transmission, rear, suspension, etc, etc were all designed around such a peice.
With regards to a Jag front end... better to just get a 2012. You'll never be able to sell a 2007, etc with such mods but rather be emotionally attached to the associated cost and even begin to believe that you "deserve" to get your money out of it. It will have similar looks but not the power - perceived by many as a poser car. That being said- a pre 2012, pre 2010, 4.2, non R, etc, etc are all gorgeous car in their onw right and anyone that has one should consider themselved very fortunate.
Sorry for sounding kind of negative but it is reality.

I agree with r.rated not to go to that extent.
Having seid that I like to cusumize my cars ,Having built a lot of hot rods etc. But with a car like a Jaguar All the Mods I do can be removed and put back to original In a short time and I allways keep the original Parts.
Except my 1940 caddy. Bernie
