Default 2014 XKR-S OEM Pirelli P Zero tires

I have the subject car and am looking to replace the tires. are these run-flat tires? I am looking to go with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S.
is there an issue changing the tires from the original Pirelli tires to the Michelin?

No, all OK as long as their XL

And the Michelin's will be FAR superior IMO

Was going to get a set for my XKR-S GT alloys but since the tyres still P zero corsa tyres still have 6mm of tread will leave the upgrade until next year.

Currently 305's on the rear of the GT wheels...what's on yours?

On my F-type switching to MP4S made A LOT of difference in how RWD car handles. Night and day. You will regret not swapping sooner.

I suggest avoiding run-flat tires, they are not really "run" when punctured, more like slowly creep forward. They add weight, ride harsher, and cost more.

thanks for the note. so, what do you do if you get a flat with no spare in the trunk?

Get it towed. The same thing you would do if you throw a rod and there is no spare engine in the trunk. It does happen, but how often?

You can go find and purchase the optional spare tire package and tool kit. It came with my 2012 so either look at some salvage yard or see if the dealer still can get one.

You can find the spare tire kit on Ebay. They show up there fairly regularly at around $250+. If you do't want to wait check out Pacific Motors in the Detroit area they are breakers and regularly have used parts for sale.

Look at Nov issue of Consumer Distorts.
Several different classes of tires are reviewed, including the Michelins you are considering.

Update ...baby got new shoes!
I went with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss and the improvement is stunning. New tires installed, road force balance, and four wheel alignment.
Rides like it's on rails.

Funny how new tires make such a positive difference in ride & handling!

Snap!!

Have my black RS Vulcans coming this week (guessing yours are technical grey?)

May I ask what you paid? Mine were £800 for the tyres and fitting and £102 from a different place for the alignment..as they had a better rep for alignment and renowned in the Merc world.

Amazing that Pirelli's are recommend for our cars but compared to the michelins they are mere amatuers...just imagine that Jaguar get a hefty discount from Pirelli?

When I have the car go in for a major (£1000) detail next week they are taking the wheels off and may get them to fit my Vulcan's with winter tyres at the same time, or else leave for another couple of months.

They'll also be fitting my white 'R' and 'Jaguar' vinyl decals to my current rather stealth black calipers

I changed my P-zeros for Michelins when I went to Vorsteiner wheels, the difference is quite significant. The ride on 21"s with the Michelins is pretty much the same as it was on the OEM 19"s with P- Zeros, and the back end of the car doesnt step out as it did pretty much all of the time on the P-Zeros (although I quite liked that happening in the V6 S as I could control it a lot more than I could in the XKR). I thought that the steering on the P-zeros was fine, though. I dont have a spare either as it takes up too much space - I have a can of goo but would call for help before I tried using it.

I paid $1450 for the tires, installed with road force balance, then added four wheel alignment for $150

Yes, and what many people do not know is that the same tire make/model just cycled in will be better than that same make/model that is aged.

You have to be very careful with reviews that rave over swapping from the OEM to something "much better".

I like having multiple wheels, and do not keep the same make/model of tires on them. I get to play and find what I like for a specific car over time.

Tires will always be some form of compromise. Michelin does seem to have the AAA game.

Impossible to compare tires when you change them due to wear. The newer tires will ALWAYS make you think they are superior because, well, newer IS superior. Once the 'new' ones wear out and you put on a fresh set of your OLD brand you will ALSO say "So Much Better!"
Michelin tires totally botched me from EVER buying any Michelin tires for the rest of my life when I got hold of some of their vegetable oil compound Pilot Super Sports; they shredded on me during normal driving. They were near deadly at less than 3,000 miles.
Nope, never Michelins. Never.

Yup Cee Jay.
That is why I posted the Consumer Reports review. They physically run each tested tire for many miles (I forgot how many miles, but it is in the report). Nothing is perfect - I believe you had problems - but I and many on this group have not.

Why so much more expensive stateside perhaps as made this side of the pond? At tourist rates mine come to $1150 USD for supply/fit/balance/alignment, although I did hunt around, but $350 USD's is a fair percentage more. Over here so few fitting places actually carry black wheel weights...am not having silver weights on black wheels....sorry!

I've noted Cee Jay's vehement dislike/sighs regarding Michelin's on other threads and perhaps if I'd had a bad experience I'd be the same, on my XK8 my MPSS lasted 24k miles and gave brilliant grip. Perhaps they just don't like Americans (thinking of MacDonald's in Paris having a 'No American's' sign up during an American military offensive a few years back!)?

As to tyre/tire wear, there were over 7mm of thread on the PZ's I took off the rear, but then age and rigidity also are a factor.
